TLAP Lesson Idea

Scavenger Hunt
5.G.1.1. Students are able to apply longitude and latitude to find absolute
locations on a map and globe.

Materials needed:
GPS (so students can find absolute location)
Written out riddles or clues to find objects (one per student/group)

Prepare:
The teacher will need to set up several objects outside around the
playground and surrounding area (football field, soccer field, track, etc.) and
create a riddle or set of clues for each object.

Activity:
Students will work with a partner or small group. They will be given a list of
riddles or clues to items and a GPS. They will have to work together to find
as many items as they can finding the absolute location for each.

ALTERNATE:
Students can receive a list of absolute locations around the school grounds
and will have to find out where each item is and write each down.
