Vanessa Stahler
Volunteer Services Manager
613 E. Morehead St.
Charlotte, NC 28207
Dear Vanessa Stahler,
My name is Mallory Hendrix and I am Human Development and Family
Science major at the University of Georgia. I am graduating in May and I am
eager to obtain an internship for Summer 2016. I am very interested in
working with your Volunteer Services program so I can utilize my skills and
education, all while gaining experiences in a new role.
In the past four years I have been a nanny for local families, worked as an
academic tutor for student athletes, worked as a substitute teacher, and
currently hold an internship at The Cottage, Sexual Assault & Childrens
Advocacy Center. Being a nanny and substitute has taught me the
importance of responsibility, communication, and time management, all
while being responsible for someone other than myself. Being an intern for
The Cottage is where I have gained incredible experiences related to the
tasks of a Volunteer Services Intern. Although most of my work is directly
with our child clients, I work closely with our volunteer coordinator and other
departments. I filter and respond to emails, assist with volunteer training,
and enter database information. Something unique about our volunteer
training is that it is a mandatory 12 hours over three days, so preparing and
coordinating these meetings has been insightful for a position in volunteer
coordination. I have also represented The Cottage at several events to recruit
new interns and hotline volunteers. Since majority of my work has been
involved with children and families, working with these groups is my passion
along with helping others. These aspects are important to me while seeking
an internship and I believe the Ronald McDonald House Charities fits both of
these qualities.
Along with my past four years of local work experience, I co-facilitate Heros
Support Group at The Cottage. Hero's Support Group is for children ages 5-10
who have experienced child sexual abuse. A child is partnered with a
volunteer for the eleven-week program and they support the children in a
therapeutic space where they are able to share feelings, talk to other
survivors, and build self esteem through games, activities, and one-on-one
time. Learning to facilitate and organize this program along with having a
child partner has been an amazing experience and I hope to gain more
opportunities like it in the future.
It is my hope that I will be chosen to interview for this position. I am

confident that I possess the talent and drive you are seeking, and would be a
great addition to the Ronald McDonald House Charities team! I look forward
to speaking with you soon. Thank you for your time and consideration.
Sincerely,
Mallory Hendrix
