I am student teaching in the Hamilton Southeastern School District; it has an enrollment of 21,144 students. There are 20 schools total in the district including 12 elementary, 6 intermediate/junior high, and 2 high schools. My placement is at Hamilton Southeastern Intermediate and Junior High School, which has an enrollment of 1,138 students. The school system is in an affluent suburb of Indianapolis; Fishers and small areas of Hamilton County are included in the district. The diversity of my school almost directly reflects that of the district. Its population is 78.3 % White, 6.4% Black, 5.9% Asian, 5% Hispanic, and 4.3% multiracial. Of the 1,1,38 students at the school, only 8.8% receive free/reduced lunch price meals, further cementing this schools economic status. Hamilton Southeastern in a growing school corporation, and was redistricted at the end of the 2014-2015 school year. 2) Description of classes taught and general classroom environment I teach a total of seven classes throughout the day. The first two periods are ability-based bands, followed by two periods of 7/8th grade general music. The day finishes with a 7/8th grade beginning band and the sixth grade band. The school runs on two separate schedules: one for the 5/6th graders and one for the 7/8th graders. Our schedule
adheres to the 7/8th grade one, with the exception of the last period. We do not have a 7th period class; instead, the sixth grade band class that comes down for 35 minutes.
