Reflection Journal

Overall, the general psychology course, has helped me to expand my knowledge about
human behavior. The material that I learned in the textbook as well the information that it was
explained by the professor in class helped me have an accurate and factual understanding of
psychology as a science its ethics, theories and methodology, and specially learning about the
individuals that are pioneers In this science who not only contributed to the remarkable science
history; more over leading the path to the present and future of this diverse field of psychology
that benefited the studies of the mind and behavior
Nevertheless, one Irony of this course was that, while learning about human behavior,
one of my challenges was to write my first APA essay, from my part, the lack of familiarization
with APA formats as well science terms made the assignment a practice test for my own
behavior. However, insightful explanation of each chapter, the life examples and the repetition of
terms from our professor and the implementation of some skills suggested in our psychology
textbook not only helped me to have a positive outcome in my essay but lifelong positive results.
In addition, the lectures of this course not only taught me the academic material such, the
evolution of a science. Furthermore, every lesson, improved and challenged my own critical
thinking as we presented with questions like can Intelligence be measured? It also provided me
with new skills and shaped and adjusted my old ones as we learned about memory, emotion and
motivation. Similarly, I was captivated with the explanation of the problem of other minds in the
consciousness chapter. It made me appreciate the uniqueness in the universe of every human in
their own life experience. When I was encountered with a complex subject such obedience in the
social psychology chapter, as the professor expanded on this subject and was supported with
video I was forced to question myself about my own behavior and raise questions like what

would I do if I was in this situation? In the practical application I felt like every chapter
contained a map of my own self as I could easily relate to my own behavior, life experience and
my environment; every single chapter educated me with new insight about the endless universe
of the mind and behavior.
More importantly, what this course has not shown me is to be negligent and manipulate
my environment with the acquired knowledge. Also not to provide or advice anyone with any
type or diagnoses. What I can do at this point is to keep educating myself to improve and unlearn
negative behaviors to become a positive citizen to society.
