If you look the future and understand the value of outstanding teachers to prepare the young for
tomorrow, you need to consider Taylor Adams. She is a motivated and passionate life-long
learner, who understands the hearts and souls of her students, who understands how they learn
and can unlock their minds, and who sees the unlimited potential of the young to bring about a
positive change in the world.
Taylor came to me from Michigan State Universitys Teacher Education Program and spent her
year, 2015-2016, of internship with me in a fifth grade classroom at Kinawa 5-6 in the Okemos
Public School District where she taught children of varying abilities, emotional needs, socialeconomic backgrounds, ethnic heritage, and maturity.
As a teacher, Taylor embodies a passion for knowledge and new creative ideas, a formidable
intelligence, and has a fierce determination to accomplish all of her goals. Moreover, Taylor
demonstrates the unusual ability to reach even the most difficult students and endeavors to elicit
the most positive qualities in each childs character. In the classroom, Taylor approached
children with genuine respect and appreciated their individuality and uniqueness. Thus, she
encouraged each child to develop and learn at their own rate, according to their particular needs
by creating and adapting lessons to meet all the varied learning styles and abilities. Through her
great efforts, gentle and engaging teaching approach, and unfailing generosity, she created a
positive, safe learning environment filled with active learners who worked and supported each
other as a family. Taylors lessons were very innovative and incorporated extensive technology.
For example, she taught language arts lessons on two different books, Watsons Go To
Birmingham and Alice in Wonderland, using a book club approach that included journal
writing and class discussion. One unit concluded with the students writing their own poetry, a
readers theater script, and an additional chapter to the book. Furthermore, she taught all the
concepts through an integrated and open-ended curriculum and was flexible enough to change
and adapt whenever necessary. As a result, Taylor instilled in the students a profound love of
learning, writing, and freedom of expression.
Taylor is a very sensitive and caring professional who maintained a wonderful working
relationship with students, parents, and staff. She helped the art teacher with an after school art
club, helped organize and produce the fifth grade on-line version of the newspaper, Hope from
Kids, prepared and took charge of spring conferences, and was always available to parents and
staff. All who met Taylor respected her as a teacher and agreed that she set an example for all to
emulate and live by every day.

It would be difficult to give a recommendation strong enough to indicate the special qualities of
Taylor for she is the kind of person who brings joy to all who work with her. All in all, she
combines a high intelligence and maturity with an eagerness to learn and a tremendous
dedication, which results in continuous personal and academic growth. I can certainly give
Taylor my highest recommendation for a very selective school system.
