6th Grade
2 class periods about 45min each
After completion of this lesson, students will be able to
distinguish between opinions, facts, and reasoned judgments.

Bermuda Triangle Article (printed)
Bellringer: 5 warmup questions giving the students confidence in
their current ability to distinguish facts and opinions that are
simple.
Day 1:
1. Have the bellringer on the board when students walk into
class. Complete the bellringer as a class with them.
2. Give the presentation on opinion, fact, and reasoned
opinion. Answer any questions the students may have at
the end of the presentation of each section (opinion, fact,
and reasoned judgment).
Day 2:
1. Review the material covered in the previous class by
playing the Kahoot.
2. Give the students the Bermuda Triangle article to
complete in class.
3. The students must follow the instructions and the
checklist and find the opinions, facts, and reasoned
judgments throughout the article and turn it in at the
end of class.
The bellringer is part of the guided practice because students will
come to the board and answer the questions. The prezi is the
instruction on opinion, fact, and reasoned judgment where we will
explain each of those and give examples. Kahoot will be a part of

the guided practice because we will play the quiz as a class.


The students will follow the checklist and instructions on the
Independent Practice Bermuda Triangle article by finding two examples of a fact,
and Assessment:
opinion, and reasoned judgment. The teacher will then asses how
each student has done with the checklist.
For students with ADD/ADHD the Kahoot is a hands on fun
experience to practice their knowledge of fact, opinion, and
reasoned judgment.
Accommodations/
For ESOL students, the article will be translated in Spanish, but
Modifications:
they must complete the assignment in English.
For the gifted students, they must find one opinion, fact, and
reasoned judgment from a second article or book they have read.
