Body:
I.

I work at a daycare center

A.

As many of yall know a daycare is the care provided for infants and toddlers,
preschoolers, and school-aged children, either in their own homes, in the
home of a relative or other caregiver, or in a center-based facility
i. I work at a center based facility.

a. These centers care for children in groups.

i. For example at the daycare I work at, I work with a group of three
year olds
ii. we provide different classes for different age groups.
b. According to the encyclopedia of Childrens Health Many parents
choose center based care because they believe the presence of multiple
care givers, larger groups of children, and state inspections make them
both safer and more dependable.
c. However there are some disadvantages to a daycare center and that is
because the cost is higher, less one on one attention with a child, and the
kids are more likely to get sick.
i. I feel like every other week I am always getting sick
B.

IF you dont feel like a daycare center is right for your child there are other
options.
i. There are family childcare providers.
a. Which is usually offered in the home of the provider.
ii. Next there are in home caregivers.
a. These are people such as nannies or babysitters.
iii. And then usually the cheapest of them all is kin care.
a. That is usually provided by relatives, friends, or neighbors.

Transition- As I mentioned earlier, I work with three year olds, now I will be explaining
the development of a three year old.
II.

The third year of a childs life is crucial.

B.

They should be able to throw and catch a ball (most of the time)
Most children are almost fully potty trained

Not only do they grow a lot physically but in their third year they grow a lot
cognitively
i.
ii.
iii.
iv.

C.

They are able to identify colors

Begin to understand the concept of counting and recognizes numbers
Able to Engage in fantasy play
Able to recite ABCs and start to recognize letters

Along with all of these milestones cognitively children at three improve a lot
socially and emotionally

i. Start to become comfortable around other people.

a. I had this kid in my class who had never spent a day away from mom,
and his first week he would cry every day when he was dropped off. But
as he got used to the kids and realized that he got to play all day, he
didnt cry anymore when he got dropped off.
ii. Begins to use full sentences.
iii. Plays well with other kids.

2. Cannot jump in place

Transition: Now we are going to talk about how play is important in the development of
a child, specifically a three year old.
III.

In a Pediatric article from AAP Gateway titled, The Importance of Play in

Promoting Healthy Child Development and Maintaining Strong Parent-Child Bonds
Which I will be getting a lot of the following information from. It states, Play is
essential to development because it contributes to cognitive, physical, social, and
emotional well being of children
A.

Many factors have contributed to the reduce of child play

i. Such as a hurried lifestyle, changes in family structure, and increased
attention to academics and enrichment activities.
ii. At the daycare center I work at all the children do all day is play, play,
play
a. Twice a day they have 30 minutes of learning time where I read them
books or we sing songs but other than that I just let their imagination take
over.

B.

Benefits of Play
i. Play allows children to use their creativity while developing their
imagination.
ii. Play also allows children to create and explore a world they can master,
conquering their fears while practicing adult roles, sometimes in
conjunction with other children or adult caregivers.
a. There is this little boy in my class who adores me and one day his mom
was picking him up and she tells me how him and his sister like to play
school at home and he always wants to be Ms. Kenzi.
iii. This is why play is so important; kids are able to express themselves
freely and to create endlessly with their imagination.
Conclusion:

In conclusion, when working with children it is always important to remember that you
are shaping the future generations. I want to close with this quote by Forest Witcraft, A
hundred years from now it will no matter what my bank account was, the sort of house I
lived in, or the kind of car I drove. But the world may be different because I was
important in the life of a [child].
