February 29, 2016 Kara Clements Camp Coordinator Camp Twin Lakes- Will-A-Way 210 S. Broad St. Unit 5 Winder, GA 30680 Dear Ms. Clements, No matter their challenges, all children deserve to experience the joys of childhood. In seeking the position of Program Development Intern, it is my primary goal to help exceptional children confidently transform their challenges into triumphs in a customized, medically supportive camp setting. I have fostered a very strong interest in this position through the references of my contacts with several Camp Twin Lakes staff members, as well as through learning more on the organizations website and at the University of Georgias Human Development and Family Science Internship Fair. Additionally, in corresponding with you personally since the Internship Fair via both phone and email, I have become even more excited to pursue this organization as my HDFS Internship placement. I am eager to combine my love for working with children with my desire to provide them an invaluably comforting and enriching time at camp. Over the years I have worked directly with youth of all ages across multiple settings. As a Camp Counselor for Camp Invention, I was responsible for creating, organizing, and executing fun and engaging educational activities for elementary school children, encouraging them to explore and grow in both a social and educational setting. I utilize my skills in team management, youth instruction, and creativity through my role as a dance team coach and choreographer and private dance lesson instructor for girls across the state of Georgia of ages as young as seven to as old as twenty-one. Additionally, in mentoring and tutoring a diverse scope of school-aged students from at-risk populations, I help instill in them a sense of efficacy and mastery, and I continually witness the benefits of providing children a sense of normalcy and constancy in their lives. I am currently working towards a Bachelors Degree in Family and Consumer Science, specifically focusing on Human Development and Family Science. In this internship, I would apply my extensive knowledge of child development and my relevant coursework in children with special health care needs to effectively design, enhance, and implement camp programs to best serve campers. I also have the added benefit of personal experience; I have watched my younger sister strive to conquer the daily challenges of Type 1 Diabetes for the past seven years, and I have seen her thrive and prosper from her own camp experience. I believe that my unique perspective and insight would make me a valuable member of the Camp Twin Lakes team. I gladly welcome the opportunity to discuss my qualifications for the Program Development Internship with you in person. I can be reached at (229) 376-0356 and look forward to hearing from you soon. Thank you for your consideration. Sincerely, Devon Dasher Enclosure
