    CanalHeadRegulatororHeadsluices
    Astructurewhichisconstructedattheheadofthecanaltoregulateflowofwaterisknownascanalhead
    regulator.Itconsistsofanumberofpierswhichdividethetotalwidthofthecanalintoanumberofspans
    whichareknownasbays.Thepiersconsistofnumbertiersonwhichtheadjustablegatesareplaced.
    Thegatesareoperatedformthetopbysuitablemechanicaldevice.Aplatformisprovidedonthetopof
    thepiersforthefacilityofoperatingthegates.Againsomepiersareconstructedonthedownstreamside
    ofthecanalheadtosupporttheroadway.

    Itregulatesthesupplyofwaterenteringthecanal
    Itcontrolstheentryofsiltinthecanal

    Itpreventstheriverfloodsfromenteringthecanal
    Thewaterfromtheundersluicepocketismadetoentertheregulatorbays,soastopassthefullsupply
    dischargeintothecanal.Themaximumheightofthesegatedopenings,calledheadsluiceswillbeequal
    tothedifferenceofPondLevelandCrestLeveloftheregulator.
    Theentryofsiltintothecanaliscontrolledbykeepingthecrestoftheheadregulatorbyabout1.2to
    1.5metershigherthanthecrestoftheundersluices.
    Ifasiltexcluderisprovided,theregulatorcrestisfurtherraisedbyabout0.6to0.7meter.
    Siltgetsdepositedinthepocket,andonlytheclearwaterenterstheregulatorbays.
    Thedepositedsiltcanbeeasilyscouredoutperiodically,andremovedthroughtheundersluice
    openings.
