DuringmyinternshipforbecomingcertifiedinspecialeducationIbecameastronger
moreinformededucatorallaround.ThroughthecompletionoftheinternshipIwasableto
demonstrateandunderstandingandmeetthecriteriaofthethreeCs,Commitment,Caringand
Collaboration.AttheendofmyinternshipperiodIwasabletositdownanddiscusswithmy
mentorabouteachofthethreeCs.Throughthatdiscussionwewereabletoidentifythemany
timesthatImetthecriteriaforthedifferentareas.
ThefirstareathatIhavedemonstratedgrowthandunderstandingisintheareaof
commitment.OverthisinternshipIhavebeencommittedtothegrowthandincorporationofall
mystudentsintothelearningprocess.Ihadthreestudentsthisyearthathavebeenastruggle
withhowtoincorporatethemintoacademicswithintheclassroom.Throughworkingwithmy
coteacherandspeakingwithfellowstaff,Iwasabletoassistincreatingaschedulethatallows
thestudentstogetinstructionfrommeaswellastheirpulloutinstructionalhoursmet.Through
creatingaschedulethatworkedwiththebestinterestofthestudentsinmindIwasabletoensure
socialskillgoalswerebeingmetalongwithacademicgoals.
ThesecondCreferstocaring.DuringthisschoolyearIhaveworkedwithcreatinga
strongrelationshipwithallofmystudentsparents.Iespeciallytooktimetocreatearelationship
withmyparentsofstudentswithIEPs.PriortotheschoolyearbeginningIwasinformedofthe
familiesanxietiesabouttheirchildrenmovingintokindergarten.Oneofmystudentshasan
medicalconditionandtheirparentswereconcernedofhow,weintheroom,weregoingto
accommodatefortheirchild.Imetwiththisparentpriortothestartdateofstudentstoeasetheir
concernsinformthemofthestepsweweretakingintheclassroomtoensuretheirchildhealth.

TwoofmyotherfamilieshadchildrencomingoutofaMultipleIntenseNeeds
ClassroomPreschool(MINCP).Theirparentswereextremelyapprehensiveabouttheirchildren
comingoutoftheprogramandintothegeneraleducationclassroom.MycoteacherandImet
withthem,separately,beforetheschoolyearbegantoshowthemtheroomandanswerany
questionstheyhad.ThroughmeetingwiththeseparentsIwasabletoformstrongbondswith
themandhaveopencommunicationwiththem.
ThefinalCisforcollaboration.ThroughoutthisschoolyearIhavehadonestudentthat
hasbeenastruggletoteach.Thestudentinitiallystartedtheschoolyearidentifiedasa
developmentaldelay.Ibeganreachingouttosupportstaffwithconcerns,thattheIEPtheycame
touswithwasinappropriateandthattheremaybeadifferentdisabilityathand.Iworkedclosely
withourschoolpsychologistandotherschoolstafftohavethisstudentassessedandidentified
correctly.Thestudentwasnewlyidentifiedintellectualdisability.Althoughthisdoesnotchange
theservicesweprovide,itdidassistwiththeparentsbeginningtounderstandwhytheirchild
wasstrugglingwithacademicandlifeskills.WhilecreatingamoreappropriateIEPforthe
student,IworkedwiththeschoolSLPtoensurethatappropriatespeechgoalswerebeing
includedontheIEP.IalsoworkedalongwiththeOToninformingherwhatskillsIwasseeing
inthegeneraleducationclass,thatwasaconcern.
