UNIT/CHAPTER OBJECTIVE/GENERALIZATION/BIG IDEA:
This lesson plan is a part of a unit covering Native American history (Chippewa Indians)
LESSON OBJECTIVE:
Given access to http://nativeamericans.mrdonn.org/northeast/ojibwa.html the student will
create a project on one of the options, excluding games.
Given each project, the students will support their information with the site provided with a
score of 80% accuracy.
The goal of this lesson is for the students to demonstrate a clear understanding of Native
American (Chippewa) history. The students will provide a visual presentation of their topic
knowledge through power points and each student will take notes on the other students
presentations.
STANDARDS ADDRESSED:
3.14 Interpret different texts and primary sources to describe the major components of
culture including language, clothing, food, art, beliefs, customs, and music. (C, H)

3.15 Use information gained from timelines, primary sources, media, and informational text
to identify major historical events and patterns in North America. (C, G, H, P) Suggestions
are as follows: Mayan Culture, Aztec Culture, Colonial America, the American Revolution,
the Panama Canal, and current events.

Communicate information and ideas effectively to multiple audiences using a variety of


media and formats (ISTE 2)
Plan and manage activities to develop a solution or complete a project (ISTE 4)

MATERIALS:
Computer for:
Microsoft PowerPoint- to make presentation
USB
Internet- to access Google Images and website about Native American life

BACKGROUND and RATIONALE:

Students will use the websites stated above as resources to learn about the Ojibwa tribe and for
google images. Microsoft Power Point software will be used to type, format, and add images to the
power point project. Students, upon completing the activity, will save their work to a USB port.
Academic Language is not addressed in IDT 3600
This lesson will reference to lessons that were solely about pilgrims life, in order to show
the difference between the peoples.
This lesson will be built on as we learn about more Native American Tribes.
I am aware that the lesson will be differentiated for students who did not master the
objectives and for those ready for enrichment. However, modifications are not covered
in this course and are not part of this particular lesson.

PROCEDURES AND TIMELINE:


Introduction:
Begin by discussing previous knowledge
Provide some background knowledge on different tribes
Explain a little about who the Ojibwa tribe was and how they were one of the biggest Native
American tribes.
Distribute subject on note cards that students will do their project on
Proceed to computer lab
Procedures: Provide a sequential (step by step) description of the procedures and activities for
the lesson.
At the Computer (45 minutes per day (two days in total) )
Teacher Procedures:
1. Have students open both
Microsoft PowerPoint and an
Internet browser
2. Direct students to the NA
website
3. Direct students to the Google
Images website
4. Monitor and assist as needed

Student Procedures:
1. Open MS PowerPoint and an
Internet browser
2. Go to NA website and find their
subject
3. Go to MS PowerPoint
4. Add the following title: Native
American Life
5. Insert four slides (Ex. Is for
Religion Subject)
6. Add the following slide names:
Spirits, Medicine, Ojibwa Herbal
Medicine, Dream Catches
7. Insert slide information
8. Use key words to locate an image
for the first slide in Google
images.
9. Copy the image
10. Go to Picture cell in the Power
Point document
11. Paste the Picture
12. Save work
13. Repeat items 7-12 for the
remaining slides.
14. When all slides are finished,
correct any spelling errors
15. Save to USB
