Who I Am
My Gallup Report/Strengths Quest questionnaire says Im Analytical, Command, Futuristic,
Focus, and Adaptability. And other sources say Im conventional like, routines and procedures
are my thing. And relationships and recognition are important to me and I agree. In the coming
paragraphs I will go more into what that means for me.
Analytical: I agree with this one the most. Im analytical because I search for causes and
reasons. And I am driven by my talents. I customarily search for the facts and relevant
information to see what really happened. I prefer reasonable explanations. I believe mostly in
karma with, a few exceptions. I often have good advice with word choice that people dont
normally think of. Im hardly emotional and stick to the facts. Instinctively I reduce problems to
their most basic parts. I want to ensure Im sufficiently prepared for whatever it may be. Im
always using logic and reason. I appreciate people who invite me to talk. And its not my style
to talk boldly.
Command: Instinctively, I give orders to people and now, I realize thats not the thing I want to
do, I was overstepping my boundaries. I believe in making things happen quickly. Im good at
following rules and processes, or ideas. As a child I was bold and assertive with a sense of selfreliance. Ive tried to help others be strong in the face of lifes challenges. Perhaps my
dedication to projects rallies individuals to work alongside me.

Futuristic: Im futuristic because I look to the future to see what it should be like. Im
energized by my plans for the future. Bringing my ideas to life is exciting for me. I want to be
the mastermind of the future, and it should be my own future. I trust myself to be the driver of
my own future. Im a visionary thinker, and one of my dreams is to have a 15 foot tall truck that
I take apart and put up to sit in when I want to play.
Focus: I have techniques for getting my weekly goals done. I guess that is why Im more
productive than others. I yearn to be independently successful. I occasionally prefer to work
alone. Once in a while I become engrossed in a task and lose track of time. I do whatever is
required, even if it means inconveniencing me. I even stay up late and, may not even sleep to get
the results I want. I try to stay healthy. Im motivated by advancing in college. And most of all,
I prioritize then act.
Adaptability: I prefer to go with the flow. I intentionally avoid inflexible people and situations.
I worry about the future. To some degree I trust I will find my path as it evolves. I occasionally
find time to take a break. I try to watch all the Modern Family episodes. Rushing from one
assignment to the next takes a toll on me. I prefer to move in the same direction as everyone
else. Being cooperative is sensible and efficient because its less exhausting. And Im a now
person who takes things as they come and, discovers the future one day at a time.
Conventional: people with conventional interests like work that follows set procedure and
routine. I prefer working with information and paying attention to details rather than working
with ideas. I like working with clear rules and, following a strong leader.
Relationships and recognition is important to me.

Summary:
I like routines, procedures, relationships, and recognition. Im a factual person and not the
emotional type. I sometimes overstep my bounds and tell someone what to do. Im energized by
my plans for the future. I have techniques for getting goals done. I prioritize then act. And I
prefer to go with the flow. I stick to the facts.
Part II
A Career for Me
Nondestructive testing (NDT) is the process of inspecting, testing, or evaluating materials,
components or assemblies for discontinuities, or differences in characteristics without destroying
the serviceability of the part or system. In other words, when the inspection or test is completed
the part can still be used.
Test the safety of structures, vehicles, or vessels using x-ray, ultrasound, fiber optic or related
equipment.

Typical Tasks:

Interpret or evaluate test results in accordance with applicable codes, standards,

specifications, or procedures.

Interpret the results of all methods of non-destructive testing (NDT) such as acoustic
emission, electromagnetic, leak, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, neutron radiographic,
radiographic, thermal or infrared, ultrasonic, vibration analysis, and visual testing.

Select, calibrate, or operate equipment used in the non-destructive testing (NDT) of

products or materials.

Examine structures or vehicles such as aircraft, trains, nuclear reactors, bridges, dams,
and pipelines using non-destructive testing (NDT) techniques.

Make radiographic images to detect flaws in objects while leaving objects intact.

Identify defects in solid materials using ultrasonic testing techniques.

Prepare reports on non-destructive testing (NDT) results.

Conduct liquid penetrant tests to locate surface cracks by coating objects with fluorescent
dyes, cleaning excess penetrant, and applying developer.

Document non-destructive testing (NDT) methods, processes, or results.

Produce images of objects on film using radiographic techniques.

How well does it pay?

Normal pay for Non-Destructive Testing Specialists is $57,083 per year. That is about $4,756 per
month, or $27.44 per hour. New workers generally start around $32,459, while highly
experienced workers can earn as much as$77,069.

Is it growing or declining?
This career has grown by 4% over the last 2 years, and is expected to grow by 12% over the
next 10 years. Currently 561 Non-Destructive Testing Specialists are employed in the region.

Will retirement create job openings?

There are 127 Non-Destructive Testing Specialists who are age 55 and older. They will likely
retire within the next 10 years, creating a demand for new workers.

or assemblies for discontinuities, or differences in characteristics without destroying the
serviceability of the part or system. My SLCC degree will give me two really important
certifications, radiography and ultrasound. The methods I will have already learned are visual

inspection, liquid penetrant, magnetic particle, thermography, radiography, ultrasound, and eddy
current. Pay rates go from $34,000 to 109,000 annually.
Cumulative Summary:

Basically my personality is analytical, command oriented, futuristic, focus minded and

adaptable. I like routines, procedures, relationships, and recognition. Im interested in being a
non-destructive technician who, searches for problematic evidence in parts or systems. It looks
like theres a lot of jobs available and varying pay rates.
