Chlorine Analyzer HACH CL17 Monthly Routine WI

PURPOSE: Outlines monthly maintenance on the HACH CL17 total residual chlorine
analyzers
SCOPE: Scheduled monthly maintenance
RESPONSIBILITY & AUTHORITY: Properly trained instrumentation personnel are
responsible for execution and reporting of results to supervision and as required to
operations. They shall inspect the installation, change reagents, clean the colorimeter
and make adjustments to ensure analyzer reading is stable and within calibration
specifications. Report repairs performed or needed to supervision.
SAFETY: Analyzer chemistry is hazardous. Review JSA, embedded MSDS and use
PPE as required.
ENVIRONMENT: Follow all applicable City of Dallas environmental guidelines as set
forth in the City of Dallas environmental policies. See MSDS for chemical disposal

TOOLS AND MATERIALS:


HACH Total Chlorine Test kit or equivalent
1 CL17 Reagent set, HACH part no. 25570-00
1 Bottle Sulfuric acid solution 19.2 N, HACH part no. 2038-32
Cleaning swabs and 4 small gauge steel wire (steel paper clip)

SPECIAL INSTRUCTIONS: It is advisable to shut down the CL booster system during


this procedure

WORK INSTRUCTION:
1. Notify Operations
2. Visual Inspection
2.1. Inspect installation for leaks or malfunctions
2.2. Verify sample flow through weir column
3. Change reagents and clean colorimeter
3.1. See Sections 5.1.1 and 5.2.3 in user manual

4. Verify calibration
4.1. Observe analyzer reading has stabilized
4.2. Perform total chlorine test per test kit instructions
4.3. Adjust calibration as needed
4.3.1. See section 4.7.5.2 in user manual
5. Upon completion notify Operations you are returning equipment to service
