Content outline
The concept of my idea is a music video for the song Pressure by Chase & Status ft. Major Lazer.
Chase & Status and Major Lazer could arguably be the biggest names in EDM/ drum & bass at the
moment, and I plan to produce a music video which breaks there typical codes and conventions of
the standard music videos of these genres. The style of the music video is meant to seem like an
amateur production, as I am counteracting the success and extravagance of typical music videos
by these artists. The music video will be made so that it can play alongside live performances of
the song at concerts and festivals.

The music video will be a dance video, however it will be slightly unconventional to most dance
music videos. This is because their will be I will be using amateur dancers and will not have a set
choreography. I wanted to do this because these names are have been extremely successful and
made lots of money. Their normal music videos would have a large budget, typically being
extravagant and bold. I want to counteract this, and be different as I want mine to stand out. The
focus of the music video will be a dance battle between two people, who are meant to be rivals to
them. This is because the title of the song relates to having the pressure on them, and how they
want to win.
The song will open with a tracking shot going from
outside on the street going into a shed. There will
be a lot of dark lighting, mainly with use of dark
purples, greens. However there will also be a
prominent bright lighting counteracting it. It will
show a crowd sat around an open space in the
middle of the shed. Two people will be seen in the
middle who are challenging each other to a dance
battle. They subsequently start dancing. The first
set of dancing will be by one of the dancers, and

will be a freestyle dance. Every time that the tempo changes he, dances either faster or slower.
While the music video is being filmed it will have people dancing in the background, all dancing
with a different style. It will show two girls dancing with each other and they will eventually turn and
sing to the camera. Afterwards we see the other dancer perform his dance moves. After he finishes
his dance moves we see the first dancer going to make a comeback, but then another two dancers
walk into the shed and challenge both of the dancers. They perform their dance routine, whilst the
girls still sing, and then we see the two main dancers retaliate. As the dance off ends there is
another tracking shot as we leave the shed until next time

Target audience
To find out who my target audience are, I conducted a focus group asking questions to help me
find out details about the target audience. I discovered that the target audience will be teenagers/
young adults, typically ages 15 and onwards. This is because people from this age are found to be
more interested in the likes of Chase & Status/ Major Lazer, with one of the people in the focus
group saying you wouldt find 12 year olds listening to Chase & Status. Furthermore the people in
the group also felt mixed about the gender of the target audience, which makes it difficult for me to
identify who they are. One of the
people said it would be both genders
because their is not predominant
sexual theme throughout it. However
some people said that it would be
mostly targeted towards girls
because it is a dance video so it
would appeal to them more, while
somebody else said it would appeal
more to guys because the main
characters in the music video are
male. Because I couldnt easily
identify who the target audience are,
I have decided that my music video
will appeal to all genders. The song
itself does not have any sexualised
themes to it, so I would not make
sense for the music video to not have
these themes either. I also found that my target audience will mostly be students, which fits in the
socio-economic group E. This would seem fitting as I mentioned before that it would be teenagers
and young adults watching this music video. Because they will be watching it, my music video will
have students performing in it. This is done because I want to add to the essence that this is meant
to be in the style of an amateur music video. I also found in my focus group that the people who
will enjoy this music video will be following a particular lifestyle. I found that they will typically be
either a skater, a dancer or fans or the artist. The reasons people said was because they found
skaters are a fan of this kind of music in general, dancers would enjoy the music video because it
being a dance video, and music fans being quite self-explanatory as they would be fans of the
artists.
