What are the conventions of music videos from this genre?

Post-Harcore/Metalcore is usually accompanied by loud guitars with extreme guitar solos.
There is usually a form of screaming in this music genre. Most music videos for this type of
music usually seem very angry or sad. Theyre mainly made so that the audience can relate
to it. Most music videos in this genre are dark and gloomy although some have the opposite
effect. Typically most metal music videos are just recordings of the band playing the song
and sometimes there will be a side story.

How are you going to meet these conventions in your video?

To meet these conventions in my music video I will have a band playing the song out in full. I
will also have some side shots to the music video so that its not only the band playing. On
some of the shots it will be in black and white and in others there will be a dark colour
correction.
Costume
The band will wear their casual clothing in the music video. The rest of the shots wont need
costume either, apart for the part Theres man with an axe standing in the rain which will
have an actor standing with an axe in front of the green screen.

Lighting
The majority of the shots will be filmed in the morning meaning that it will be light so that no
extra lighting will be needed. But for some of the extra shots such as a shot where a
television is on a table in a dark room, there will need to be extra lighting focusing on the
television.
Locations
One location which I will use is the studio in college. This is because there is a green screen
in the studio which I can use to complete multiple shots. But the main location that I will use
is the back of my garden as it is looks run down and overgrown which suits the song and the
style which Im trying to achieve.
Shot types
In my music video I will use multiple different shots. I will have one camera stationary at the
front of the band playing whilst I will have one camera simultaneously recording other shots
such as the guitar and vocalists. The song will be recorded in 0.5 speed and whilst I am
editing the clips I will speed it up to the normal speed of the song. This will make the music
video look like its in fast speed although the lips and guitar movement will move in sync to

the music.

How have these videos influenced the decisions made?

Ungrateful by Escape The Fate influenced some of the decisions which I made for the final
music video. The video had the band playing whilst cutting to the story throughout. This
gave me a better idea on how to shoot and film the shots of my band in my music video. It
also helped as it gave me a better understanding of where to cut to the storyline, although
my music video doesnt have a storyline.
Throne by Bring Me The Horizon didnt influence my decision however as it wasnt the style

which I was aiming for.

Meaning of the song

Does the song have a meaning? If so, what is it?

The song does have a meaning, but the lyrics are very broad and are very hard to decipher.
The main meaning behind the song is about betrayal, whether its friends, family or the other
half.
The first verse about Place that Ive found could be a place which he has found to get
away from all of his problems. This place is in The depths of his dreams. He cant get to
this place because its surrounded fire and trees, stopping him from getting to the place,
supposedly a place where he is happy. This overall as a metaphor, could mean that the
people around him are stopping him from being who he really is, or they are stopping him
from getting to the place where he can be happy.
The line Never fall asleep, You wont wake up Could mean that you should always watch
your back, dont close your eyes because when youre not looking theyll find a way to leave
you and hurt you.
The line Destroy the guillotine, Before he does is about cutting off the people which you
think are not real friends before they can do it to you.

The line I walk with shadows could mean that he feels like hes walking with people who
are fake and are not trustworthy.

How will your visuals relate to the song?

The visuals will relate to the song because most of the lyrics will have a shot which relates to
them, although there isnt necessarily a story to the music video. For example, End
transmission, the satellites are down will have a shot of a CRT television losing connection
(The satellites are down.

would be to film during lessons when

shoot in in the middle of the day to
avoid cars leaving college and making
noise.

The location is surrounded by collapsed

walls and steps. These can be a
tripping hazard as some of the bricks
could be in the middle of the location.
There are also low branches which
could get in the way and make
someone off balance.

Before filming map out where the

camera will be and go then clear the
areas around there so that it is safe to
film but does not change the location
enough to make it not suit the theme of
the film.
