Connecting, Engaging, and

Empowering Faculty
and Students
Congratulations on a great
semester!
We have accomplished quite a bit
this semester. Here is the "Semester
in Review".
We hope these emails benefit you and your
students. If you have ideas for future emails,
please let us know. We are here to help you!
The First Day of Class
The beginning of the semester is a time for
new relationships. We discussed possible
activities that would help you get to know your
students such as "human bingo", "snowball
fights", and interviews. If you don't have a first
day activity in place, consider implementing
one next semester.
The Importance of Learning Students'
Names
Why is it important to learn the names of our
students at SLCC? Barbara Gross Davis, in
her book Tools for Teaching states, "By
learning your students' names, you can create
a comfortable classroom environment that will
encourage student interaction. Knowing your
students' names also tells them that you are
interested in them as individuals" (23).
Importance of The Early Alert System
Hopefully you gave this system a try. What a
great resource for helping struggling
students. If you have not used it, consider
giving it a try next semester! Here is some
additional information.
