Summary of Mentor Interview

Fantasies are that anesthesiologist gets payed a lot or make a lot of money, when actually
a lot of ones income goes into paying loans from medical school.
It takes about 30 years to pay back ones medical school loans.
Healthcare is also a huge downside of medical field because of high taxes and cost going
up for medical school. Actually school in general.
Doctor needs 12 years of school total.
24 hours a year at conferences, medical school. Have to be board approved in order to
practice in Anesthesiology. Conferences can be in super cool places like Hawaii as long
as they get all their conference hours.
See patients in the morning for pre-op and history, then goes to surgery for
anesthesiology.
Usually up to 4 cases a day can be an endoscopy, gallbladder, C-section.
Very secure but the hospital hires and fires in groups, easy to find new job when this
happens.
Lose jobs easier because they dont bring patients into hospitals surgeons and doctors do.
Start at $250,000-$450,000 and then rises with experience and job consistency.
One can always work extra hours to earn more money.
Anesthesiology is growing more technology based.
Basically they can do the same thing. Hospitals new rule, doctors can no longer gives
nurses any verbal commands. CNRA cant give orders or supervise.
Mentor believed that all the years in medical school and training are necessary for the
job.
12 years total in medical school and training.
Downside is the risk of infection and the risk of getting oneself sick as a doctor.

Summary of Professional Interviews

Nurse Anesthetist are not treated down because they arent as highly educated as doctors.
Fantasy is that doctors order around nurse anesthetist when in reality that's not true. In
most cases the anesthesiologist and other doctors treat nurses as they would any other
coworker.

Nurse Anesthetist need BSN and after nursing school need to go into ICU as a nurse for
two years before they can even apply for CRNA School.
Usually when we are scheduled to a shift an anesthesiologist is also scheduled so they
can supervise.
There are major downsides to working in medical field such as lose of patients and in the
case of Kim Campbell the loss of babies.
Typical day we do all kinds of surgery whether it is a c section or an epidural, to an
endoscopy.
Median is about $150,000 is the salary for CRNA and $55,000 for a Delivery and Labor
Nurse.
One can always climb the ladder and get a better job no matter where one works and
what they do.
8 years in school and training for CRNA and 2 years for a RN degree.
Yes, we learn the same training in anesthesia except anesthesiologist learn more of the
biology in medical school. The only major difference between Nurse Anesthetist and
Anesthesiologist is that Anesthesiologist can is supervise others work.
One downside of the medical field is the emotional strain it can cause when patients don't
make it. An upside is helping people from my community get better, and being there for
someone in need.
