Artifact: Educational Achievement Report

Artifact Rationale
This artifact is the Educational Achievement Report based on the results of a formal,
standardized assessment, the Woodcook-Johnson Test of Achievement-III. The Educational
Achievement Report is the signature assessment for the course SPED 525: Formal Tests &
Measurements for Students with Disabilities: K-12. After administering, scoring, and
interpreting the results of the Woodcock-Johnson, an Educational Achievement Report was
generated to include recommendations for the student. The standards that are reflected in this
artifact are Development/Individual Differences (CEC Standard 1, InTASC Standard 1,2),
Assessment (CEC Standard 4, InTASC Standard 4, 6), and Professional Reflection/Growth (CEC
Standard 6, InTASC Standard 9).
InTASC (6)/CEC (4) - Assessment
Prior to developing the Educational Achievement Report, numerous steps were taken to
gather relevant information regarding the examinee. I first interviewed the examinee to gather
background information about his childhood, hobbies, and academic history. An additional
interview was conducted with the parents to gather familial background information, as well as
their own academic histories. We identified any significant events in the students life or current
situations in the classroom that may affect the formal assessment results. The next steps in
generating the report were preparing for administration, administering the assessment, scoring,
and interpreting the results of the Woodcock-Johnson Test of Achievement-III. To develop the
Educational Achievement Report, I analyzed and interpreted the assessment results. By
interpreting these results, I was able to identify the students academic areas of strength and
weakness. I was also able to provide recommendations for the students areas of need.
InTASC (9)/CEC (6) Professional Reflection/Growth
To develop the Educational Achievement Report, professional behavior and ethical
practices in compliance with applicable laws and policies were maintained. Confidentiality was
also an important part of the professional experience. When including my interpretation of the
formal assessment results in the Educational Achievement Report, I obtained assistance to
correctly interpret the scoring. Being able to write a reflection on my report assisted in
identifying any areas of improvement, which would help guide my professional growth and
development.
InTASC (1, 2)/CEC (1) Development/Individual Differences
Administering, scoring, and interpreting formal assessment results strengthened my
ability to identify gaps in student achievement in various academic areas. Viewing various
strengths and weaknesses of an individual helped to develop my understanding for individual
differences. By analyzing and interpreting these results across the broad areas and through the
subtests of the Woodcock-Johnson Test of Achievement-III, I was able to identify and consider
recommendations specific for the examinees learning needs.

After developing the Educational Achievement Report I have the knowledge and skill set
to administer, score, and interpret the Woodcock-Johnson Test of Achievement-III. Being
familiar with this formal and standardized assessment is an important skill to master before
entering the field of education. Completing the report left a positive impact on student learning
because I was able to identify recommendations based on the individual needs of the examinee.

By looking at the results, I was able to choose subtests that are considered areas of need, and
develop recommendations to improve those areas.
