Missouri Visual Arts Grade Level Expectations
I.3.A.HS.1 - Create original artworks using the following as subject matter: Non-objective
I.3.C.HS.1 - Create original artwork that communicates ideas through themes: Music
II.1.E.HS.1 - Identify and use color theory including color value, and color schemes
III.2.A.HS.1 - With one artwork: describe artwork; analyze the use of elements and principles in the work; Interpret the meaning of the work
(subject, theme, symbolism, message communicated); Judge the work from various perspectives: Expressing feelings
IV.1.A.HS.1 - Connect meanings of elements in art with terms in music, theatre, or dance
Learning Objectives
Students will be able to create a non-objective painting without having preconceived plan.
Students will be able to interpret a non-objective work of art with visual evidence.
Students will be able to create an artwork based on the rhythm and mood of music using color theory and a variety of marks.
Students will be able to connect meaning with colors and marks while creating this non-objective art piece.

Summative Assessment Non-objective Music Painting rubric which includes artist statement, and class presentation

Learning Activities
Kahoot Online quiz/competition to show what students know as a whole class over non-objective artwork and color psychology
Note Taking During the presentation and both activities, students will take notes in their journal
Group activity Interpreting non-objective art through the Movie Barcode game

Technology
Differentiated/Accommodations
Students may use their laptop if they do not have a smartphone. If they have neither, they will buddy up with a partner for the Kahoot game.
Students will be given instructions verbally, visually, and in text form.
Students will be given examples of what is expected
Students will receive bulleted steps for each activity
Classroom Management
Students will have their cell phones away during the lesson presentations and student project presentations
I will walk around the room while students are working to check on progress and to see if they need help or have questions.
If several students have the same question, I will address the whole class to explain and clarify.
Individual students, and the class as a whole, will receive verbal feedback on their progress
Extensions
Students may create a QR code to attach to their painting for the song that it represents. They would need to find their song on youtube, then copy
and paste the link into http://goqr.me/ to create their code. They would then print it out and attach it to their painting. People who view the work
will be able to scan the code and listen to the song the painting represents as they view it.
