Food Chain A classification of organisms each dependent on the next as


a source of food.

Organisms on the Food Chain

Producer- An organism that is able to use the power of the


sun to create food.

Consumer- An organism that eats something.


Herbivores- An organism that eats plants. (Primary Consumers)

Carnivores- An organism that eats meat.

Omnivores- An organism that eats both plants and animals.

Primary Consumer- An organism that eats only plants (herbivore)

Secondary Consumer- A carnivore that feeds only on herbivores

Tertiary Consumer- Carnivore at the top most level of the food chain that
feeds on other carnivores

Ecosystem- A biological community of organisms that have positive/negative


interactions with their environment.

Predator- An animal that lives by killing and eating other animals.

Prey- The animal being hunted by the predator.
