My research question: Why is it important that college students vote?

Robinson, Kenneth. "Students Need to Understand the Importance of Voting."

Kenneth Robinson is a staff writer that writes about the importance of college
voters. He states that with a lot of budget cuts to higher education, you would think
that students would be more motivated to vote. California has been facing the
issues of college students not voting for quite some time. It is stated that 81
percent of voters are 35 or higher. Not the correct age group for the average
students. Robinson brings up the past struggles in American history with women
and racial minorities. He brings up the disrespect level of students not to vote, when
people have gone through so much to vote. The advancement of society depends
on the voters. Robinson asks students why they do not vote, the majority of the
answers are "I don't vote because I simply don't have the time to". He also talks
about the excuses college students bring up about not knowing about the
presidential debate and runnings
This article provides good information regarding the importance of college students
voting. Robinson points out that we need to better educate ourselves so we want to
vote. He indicates that students need to step up, educate themselves and get
active. They need to vote so they can get their voices, heard and demand change,
because it is the only way it will ever happen.
Campus Vote Project. "Why Students Voting Matters". campusvoteproject.com
Active Online blog 2014. http://campusvoteproject.org/why-student-voters-matter/
Campus Vote Project, is an online blog run by a company. It shows statistics of
student voters. The blog says many students are new to voting and aren't aware of
the process. 21% of college students in 2008 said they werent registered to vote
because they had missed the registration date. Then 6.2% of the students said they
did not even know how to register. In 2014 42% of students 18-24 year olds said
they were registered to vote. That has been the lowest number in 40 years. A total
of 1.7 million students 18-24 in America have said they are not aware of the
registration process. It is also stated that Out-of-state college students are the
lowest percentage of voters, almost nonexistent.
Reading this article was eye opening. The lack of knowledge towards the matter
intolerable. We need to have programs to better educate students how the
registration process works. The percentage of 18-24 year old students that actually
cast ballots is lower than they actually registration poll. We young college students
have the power to make a difference. It is very important that we make our voices
heard at the polls on Election Day.

Jones is a Student writer addressing the topic of college voters. He talks about how
crucial it is for the future America for students to vote. He goes over three main
points in his argument: experience, trajectory, and the issues. He talks about how
only college students know what it is like to be a college student during that time.
Time changes the views and perspectives of students. Trajectory because the older
generations do not realize what it is like to be a young "average Joe" in America.
Students are witnessing what is happening and where our future is going. Only
students understand the culture of this generation. Issues play a vital role in our
generation.
Jones has a different perspective on the matter. His three main points are
interesting and unique. It is the first article I have seen them introduced. I like how
he says that all students want to be heard, even if they don't reach out and vote
they still want to be heard. I love how he urges students to do their research, and
vote for this generation.
Schopp, Rachael. "Why It's Important To Vote As A College Student".
www.theodysseyonline.com Online article. Aug 11, 2015
http://theodysseyonline.com/saint-louis/why-its-important-to-vote-as-collegestudent/136236
Schopp identifies current college students should be having their first presidential
election now in 2016. She says "It's easy to think of yourself as one voter out of
millions, but what about all the other people thinking the same thing? Votes add up
and yes, all these votes can make a difference in an election". As adults we are
given this great privilege to vote. People need to start treating it like a privilege and
take advantage of it.
I love Schopps point of view because she shows each and everyone how important
their vote matters. Her big idea is that all of the college students added up makes a
difference. She is passionate about having student's voices heard. She talks about
the importance of the role of growing up.
Brennan, Collin. Newport, Christopher. Cook, Krista. "Why college students aren't
voting (and why it matters". www.college.usatoday.com September 25, 2015.

These authors address the influence of social media. Some examples are vines,
gif's, and memes. They address the anticipation of a low voter turnout for 18-24
year olds students. It is not a big surprise, because often the polls show a short turn
out. Student voters have consistently voted at lower rates since every election since
1962. Less than half of student voters between 18-24 choose not to vote. The

bottom line is that people generally agree that the extent to which young adult
students feel they have a stake in the establishment is less than the older voter,
Kidd says. By all measures, he is an old white guy that doesnt know how to comb
his hair, and he is kind of angry and upset half the time,' Kidd says. But he is
really appealing and endearing to college students. The different views of college
students may help outcomes like these.
It is very interesting to see what results social media had on student voters. Most of
the articles state that students do not feel like they make any differences towards
the presidential election.
