Moaffcation in oil filing pipe arrangement for centre pivot & side bearer (oil pans) of Co-Co trimount
locomotive bogie.
2. BACKGROUND
The locomotive bogie consists of cast bogie frame, which has a centre pivot carried on the pivot transom
and two load bearers that are located on cross member of the frame between the middle and trailing axle.
Centre pivot (Swivel Bowl) and load bearers (oil pans) are provided with horizontal wear liners submerged
in oil. Oil is filed! topped-up oil in centre pivot and load bearers (oil pans) through oil cups and pipe
arrangement. The location of oil cup in locomotive bogie is such that it was difficult to fill/ top-up oil in
centre pivot and load bearers (oil pans).
3. OBJECT
Review and revise the design of oil filing pipe arrangement of Co-Co trimount locomotive bogies. The
Piping design has modified as per RDSO sketch no. 2010-40 with easy for oil filing at the time of
maintenance schedule to prevent their oil falling problem in service.
4, INVESTIGATION
Zonal Railways are facing difficulty in oil filing in load bearers (Oil Pans) and centre pivot (Swivel Bow!)
due to poor accessibility of oil filing cups resulting in to wastage/ falling of oil on bogie frame, To
overcome the problem, RDSO has modified the piping arrangement for oil filing for easy accessibility in
oil filing cups.
5. APPLICATION TO CLASS OF LOCOMOTIVES
Diesel and electric Co-Co trimount locomotive bogies
6. MODIFCATION CONTENT
Following steps should be followed:
|. Place the locomotive on repair line and disconnect the bogie connections which are connected to
loco body,
. Run out the bogies from locomotive along the track
Ill, Remove the existing piping arrangement from the bogie frames.
IV. Fit the modified piping arrangement on the bogie frames as shown in RDSO sketch no. 2010-40
(Annexure-!)
V. Fill the recommended lubricant in load bearers (Oil Pans) and centre pivot (Swivel Bow!)
VI. Placed the bogies under locomotive and refit the bogie connections to the loco body.10.

1. 112" Pipe.
