1Loading System Software

The instructions below describe how to load system software on the system.
Observe the following Caution alerts before proceeding.

CAUTION

If the system software will be upgraded (or downgraded to an earlier version) for testing or to resolve an operational problem, the
feature keys for options that are not supported by the installed version will be lost.
To avoid this problem, uninstall all feature keys before upgrading
or downgrading the system software. See (US07-102.892.01 / Uninstalling the Product Feature Keys) for details.
Be sure that all feature keys are properly re-installed
after upgrading (or downgrading) software.

Use the following instructions to verify the system software version of ACUSON X300
ultrasound system.
1. Power on the system and wait for the system to boot up.
2. Press Presets. The Preset Main Menu displays.

6. Select Cancel to exit.

NOTE

ACUSON X300

Before starting a software installation, make a backup copy of the


user-defined settings and the patient database. After loading the
system software, customize the setting of video and language format by following the procedure in US11-101.816.01 Installing the
System Software.

The instructions below describe how to load system software on the ACUSON X300.
Observe the following Caution alerts before proceeding.

Feature keys do not have to be uninstalled. Experienced customer service engineers


(CSEs) may choose to leave the keys installed.
The software generally consists of system Presets and system software.

1. Power on the system and wait for it to boot up completely.


2. Press Preset. The Preset Main Menu displays.

8. Select Install Software to install software.

9. Insert the installation CD / DVD into the CD / DVD-R/RW drive.

10. Click OK. The system automatically reboots.

11. After the automatic reboot, the system prompts for the type of upgrade to perform.

- Upgrade/Update Installation retains the current presets.


- Clean/Factory Installation initializes the presets and all patient studies are erased.

NOTICE

Selecting Clean/Factory Installation erases all patient studies from


the hard disk drive.
Be sure to back up all patient studies before selecting
Clean/Factory Installation.

12. Choose the desired upgrade. If a choice is not made in 30 seconds, the system will default to Upgrade/Update Installation.
13. After approximately 7-8 minutes, the system will display a pop-up window asking for the
second CD. The CD tray will open. Remove the first CD and insert the second.

14. After approximately five more minutes, the upgrade is complete, the system will reboot.
After the system completes the reboot, verify the system software version as described
in (Verify the System Software Version / p. 7).
15. Press Preset, then select Service --> Configuration --> License & Components to
confirm newly installed software version.

Configuring Peripheral Video and Language Format

1. Press Preset and select Basic System 1 from the left side of the Preset Main screen.

2. Select the Language Format from the Format pane according to customer need.
Be sure that all feature keys are properly re-installed after upgrading (or downgrading)
software.
3. Select Save.

4. Select Peripheral from the left side of the Preset Main screen.

5. Select the Video format from the Peripheral pane according to customer need.
6. Select Save.

Verifying Software Operation

Use the following instructions to verify that the software is operational and to restore data.

Check/Update the Firmware and BIOS

During this last phase of the software installation, the system checks the revision level of
the firmware and BIOS, updating them if necessary.

Verify the Software Installation

Before continuing, verify the system is now running the new software.
1. Power on the system and wait for the system to boot up.
2. Press the Preset key to display the Preset Main Menu.

3. Select Service to display the Service Main Menu.

4. The system information section of the service preset menu displays the current software version. Verify the system software version.

Confirming the Product Serial Number

1. Confirm that no warning message is displayed on the monitor.


2. Press the Preset key on the keyboard.
3. Select Service in the left pane of the Preset menu.
4. Verify that the correct software version is displayed.

5. At the product information screen, verify that the correct product Serial No. is displayed: the number displayed on the product Information screen should be identical to
the product Serial Number recorded on the label attached to the rear of the product.

6. If necessary, restore the Presets according to (US11-104.816.01 / Backing Up Data)


and perform the instructions in reverse fashion.
7. If necessary, restore the service data. Refer to (US11-104.816.01 / Backing Up Service
Data) and perform the instructions in reverse fashion.
8. If necessary, restore the Feature keys according to the instructions found in
(US11-102.816.01 / License Key Installation).

1. Display the Service menu in the Preset.
-

Press the Preset key.


Select Service in the left pane of the Preset menu.
Select Go.
Select Backup & Restore icon in the Service menu window.
Select Restore. The system will request the back-up disc you have made.

2. Insert the Backup CD in the CD-R/W drive and wait approximately ten seconds for the
CD to spin up.
3. Select Restore on the pop-up window to start. The system will display Restore is
completed message.
4. Select Ok and remove the backup CD.
- The system will display Shutdown before the system starts restoring
message.
5. Select Ok to confirm.
6. Close Backup &Restore and select Exit twice to return to the preset menu.
7. Shutdown the system manually and wait for it to shut down
8. Restart the system.

Sleep Mode

The Sleep Mode option is a part of software version 2.0. It can be installed on systems
configured with hardware versions 1.0 or 2.0. The Sleep Mode setup is different for each
system hardware version. Use the set of instruction that apply to the system software and
hardware configuration.

System Configuration: Hardware Version 2.0 - Software Version 2.0


NOTE

After installing software version 2.0, the default status of Sleep


Mode is inactive. To activate Sleep Mode, select the Show field of
the Preset Sleep Mode Option.

1. Press the Preset key. The system displays the Preset Main Menu.
2. Select Service from the Presets menu. The system displays the Service Authentication screen.
3. Enter the password and select Go. The system displays the Service Main Menu.
4. Select Configuration. The system displays the Configuration screen.
5. Select System from the Configuration menu.
6. Select Preset Sleep Mode Option. See (Fig. 18 / p. 27) for location of the option.

The system will display the Enable Sleep Mode option on Preset Main Menu, Basic
System 1 screen.
7. Select the Save button. The system saves the changes.
8. Select the Close button. The system displays to the Preset Main Menu.
9. Verify the Enable Sleep Mode option is selected. See (Fig. 19 / p. 28) for location of
the option.

System Configuration: Hardware Version 1.0 - Software Version 2.0


NOTE

Systems with hardware configuration version 1.0 do not have the


sleep mode function. Therefore, there is no need to display the
Enable Sleep Mode function on Preset Main Menu screen.
If the system hardware includes the DC/DC power supply
(MN: 10010385) and control panel firmware, the Sleep Mode function can be deactivated by deselecting Enable Sleep Mode.

2. Select Service from the Preset Menu. The system displays the Service Authentication
screen.
3. Enter the password and select Go. The system displays the Service Main Menu.
4. Select Configuration. The system displays the Configuration screen.
5. Select System from the Configuration menu.
6. Deselect the Preset Sleep Mode Option.

The system hide the Enable Sleep Mode option unavailable on Preset Main Menu,
Basic System 1 screen.
7. Select the Save button. The system saves the changes.
8. Select the Close button. The system displays to the Preset Main Menu.
