Compreh ensi on

Fluency means reading text

with sufficient speed,
accuracy and expression to
support comprehension.

Reading comprehension is the

ability to make meaning requiring
specific skills and strategies,
vocabulary, background
knowledge and verbal reasoning
skills.

A great idea to help your children and

students with fluency is with flashcards!
For example, you can create a set of
flashcards with different words of
colors! Show your student the card and
they can read it aloud. This will help with
fluency and speed.
The following online game is a great tool
for children working on fluency. The
game is perfect for early learners who
need practice with silent "e" and sight
words. This reading game challenges
students to find the sentence that
matches each picture.

that students must

comprehend text.

bunch of literacy interactive
games for children and students.
The following link provides a

A big aspect of phonemic awareness

is rhyming! The Scholastic website
offers interactive games for children,
and the following game has children
find the word that rhymes with the
given word (pictures & words).
What's great about these type of
websites is that the instructions are
given through verbal spoken sound
effects, making it simple for children
to understand! Explore the website
for more fun games!
