MEMORANDUM

TO: Julia Intawiwat, Professor of Writing

FROM: Thomas Basini, Student of Mechanical Engineering Technology
SUBJECT: Multi Modal Project
DATE: 6 May 2016
The assignment attached features three bumper stickers made for the multi modal
project. These multi-genre texts feature attributes that appeal to peoples ethos
(ethics), logos (logic), and pathos (emotion).
Choosing the text
I chose to make bumper stickers for my multi modal project. Bumper stickers was
an easy choice, since my Inquiry project focuses on salvage, mostly cars. A big
portion of inquiry was about recycling so I decided to do awareness bumper stickers
to spread the word about salvage and recycling.
Designing the text
While designing the text I considered hoe the texts would affect peoples ethos,
logos, and pathos.
Text #1- Save the world, Recycle!

Ethos- Ethically, saving the world is important. If you want to destroy

the earth I would argue that youre unethical.
Logos- Recycling is a logical step in saving the planet.
Pathos- The image of the earth, along with the words save the
planet, makes one feel like the earth is in trouble, tugging at the
readers emotion.

Text #2- I Salvage!

Ethos- Salvaging is ethically right.

Logos- Logically salvaging may save the planet
Pathos- The person in the vehicle makes one feel like its you who has
all the salvageable material and can salvage to help save the planet.

Text #3- The world is not your trash can!

Conclusion

Ethos- Using the world as your trash can is unethical!

Logos- The globe is a symbol of how clean the earth was before human
kind polluted it. It is logically wrong to trash the once untouched earth.
Pathos- By almost insulting the reader, it makes one feel bad about
what they have done, and makes them want to do something about it.

This multi modal project spreads the importance of salvaging and recycling through
bumper stickers. Each one appeals to a persons ethos, logos, and pathos. These
bumpers stickers would most likely end up on salvaged cars themselves, relating
them to my inquiry topic. I believe it is important for people to understand the
importance of salvaging and recycling. We are ruining the world, and without some
form of awareness, no steps will be taken to save it.
