Prior lessons:
Prior to this lesson students would have have
gained prior knowledge about the art concepts
that relate to dance. Prior to this lesson
students will have researched an art concept
that they were interested in and will have
presented it to the class. Students will have
chosen one of the five art concepts to research,
body, space, time, energy or relationship.
Students will have build up their knowledge
bank through individual research and
through actively participating in peer
presentations. Students presentations and
research component will be used to assess the
students level of understanding and competency
in the unit of The Future under the arts area of
dance.

- Introduce the students to the lesson.

Explain to the students that in todays
session we are going to be continuing to
develop and explore our knowledge on
dance. Students will be able to put their
knowledge into practice through out the
session and link the theory of dance with
the understanding they have of The
Future.
Time: 5-minute introduction
- Ask the students to think of The Future
and what it might include. Explain to
students to think about their prior
knowledge and what they remember from
past sessions. Write down students
responses on the board. Prompt students
to think about the environment,
technology, transport and communication.
Time: 5 minutes
- Revisit the dance concepts that make a
successful dance. (students would have
studied the 5 concepts in previous
lessons, so this time will be used to
refresh students memories. The concepts
include body, space, time, energy and
relationship.) Brainstorm with students the
concept and explanation of each concept.
Time: 20 minutes
- Show the students some You Tube videos
that relate to dance and exploring emotion
and movement.

Students need to warm up their muscles

before starting the main activity. Students
need to stretch their neck, back, arms and
legs to reduce the chance of injury. This can
occur by rolling the joints, as well as jogging
and skipping.
Time: 5 minutes
To set the seen and make sure that student
feel comfortable and confident in the session
a warm up activity should be used. This
activity enables students to work together as a
team to complete a task. As the teacher I will
ask the students to make a certain shape,
object or word with their bodies. Depending on
the task students group sizes will differ.
Time: 10 minutes
Students are to work in groups of 5-6 people.
These groups will have already be
predetermined from the start of the unit, and
will be the same groups throughout the whole
unit.
Students will have 40 minutes to develop a 23 minute dance.
Students will have 5 minutes to discuss with
their group members what they want to
incorporate in their dance and how it relates to
The Future. Each group will briefly explain
their idea to the teacher and if approved them
may start.
Lesson Plan Template
Students will have access to their iPad and

Each group will then have an opportunity to

perform their dance to the class. The
students will also have to talk about their
dance and explain why they chose include
certain elements in it and how it relates to the
unit topic of The Future.
Time: 20 minutes
Each group will have 5 minutes to perform
their dance and explain it to the class.
