What is the recovery process?

The journey to recovery is a huge challenge for many; here are the stages to recovery
Pre-contemplation Stage - The individual is in denial and refuses help.
Contemplation Stage-The individual realizes there needs to be a change and is now accepting help.
Preparation Stage- The suffering individual is ready to make a change, but does not know how to go about doing so. A
treatment team (psychotherapist, nutritionist, physician, and family members) is built for necessary treatment and support.
Action Stage- The individual implements a new strategy to overcome the eating disorder and becomes more open to
treatment options. They will have to overcome this stage.
Maintenance Stage- The individual is positively responding to the treatments and is practicing new behaviors. They are also
improving their self-care and using more coping skills.

There is NOTHING
wrong with your body,
but there is a lot wrong
with the messages which
try to CONVINCE you
otherwise.
-Rae Smith

The process to recovery is viewed as a cycle that may be repeated and can revisit
particular stages before the process is complete.
