Introduction
The topic that we researched is whether or not having a job or being in a club
affects your academic performance at all. This is most likely different for everyone but if
you are a full time student and work a job/ a club at the same time, this topic is bound to
come up. The questions we asked range from the generic questions such as: What class
are you, and of course are you in a job or club. The other questions we asked are how
many hours the student spends at their job or club and also how much time they spend on
homework in a week. The last question that we included was asking the student what they
feel like their average letter grade is. The tool that we used to collect all of our data was a
Google Docs Form. We received 312 responses but this is because we didnt have the
keyword set up properly.
Discussion

Class demographic chart:

The class demographic chart is a chart that expresses that class of
each student who has participated in our survey. We have found that

3
the sophomore class is the largest class that participated. We also
found that the graduate class had the lowest number of participants in
our survey.

Students with jobs:

The students with jobs graph are a pie graph that expresses the
percentage of students who also have a job outside of school. We have
found that the majority of students do have a job. 50 percent of the
students do have a job. 33.1 percent of students put other, these
students who put other did anything from being a student athlete to
volunteering on top of school. Then we had 16.9 percent who just went
to school and did nothing more.

Club Affiliation Chart:

4
The club affiliation chart is a pie chart that expresses the amount of
students who participated in our survey that are affiliated with a club.
We have found that 22.8 percent of the students who participated in
our survey were involved in a club. 77.2 percent of the students who
participated in our chart were not affiliated with a club.

Hours spent on a job:

The chart on hours spent on a job is a bar graph that express the
students who have a job and how much time that student spent at the
job per week. The most common amount of time was more than 20
hours a week. We found that the students who have a job tend to
spend a lot of time at it during each week.

Hours spent with club:
The chart on hours spent with a club is a bar graph that express the
students who are in a club and how much time that student spent
doing work for that club every week. The most common answer was 15 hours. Most people who are in a club do not spend a significant
amount of time in it.

Typical grades:
The graph titled typical grades is a bar graph that expresses the most
common grades the student receives. The most common grades are
Bs. But As were also very common. Ds and Es were the least common
result we found.

Hours spent on homework:

The graph titled hours spent on homework express the amount that
students sleep every night. The most common answer we found was
that students sleep around 3-6 hours a night. Students don't sleep as
much as they should. We had no one answer more than 6 hours of
sleep. This shows that students don't take the time to rest their bodies.

Data Correlation Chart:

This chart displays various things, but the most important is the data
that is correlates. It compares the three activities, of which, could
occupy your time and possibly effect your academic success. There are
five time zones that a student was able to choose and according to the
chart there are various individuals who favor certain times. The chart
shows that a majority of individuals whom are involved with
clubs/Greek life spend 1-5 hours with that specific organization. In
addition, the chart also shows that a majority of individuals spend 5-10
hours on homework and a vast majority spend more than 20 hours at
their job.
Analysis
Based on our charts and the data that was provided our group came to
the decision that there are is a pretty good number of students at ASU
that are involved with clubs/Greek life (71/313) and there are also a
majority of students that have a job (225/313). The most interesting
concept that we received from the data was the fact that if students

8
were involved with Greek life/club then they only spent a maximum of
1-5 hours with their specific organization where if they had a job, more
than 30% spent at least more than 20 hours at their job. In addition,
we also discovered that a majority of individuals spent between 5-10
hours on homework which implied that they would have to choose
homework over organizations (clubs/Greek life) and they would choose
their job over homework. So, does this effect their academic success?
No, we found that more than half of the students that took the survey
had typical grades that range from As to Bs. This rose another
question. Does the amount of time studying directly correlate to the
overall grade of which the student will receive? Additionally, do
students personally believe that jobs or club/Greek involvement effect
their academic success? These are definitely questions I wish I would
have thought of before completing the survey. I also wish that we
asked the age of each individual because I strongly believe that age
can impact the results we received. Also, I would change the fact that
we were not more specific about how they attend ASU, whether that be
online, campus to campus, or primarily one campus. I truly believe this
also has a huge impact on time management as well as academic
success.
