Reflection
There is no doubt that giving and receiving feedback is crucial in terms of
developing communication skills. Teachers need feedback in order to
enhance their teaching performance and improve their achievements, thus
which make it essential part of effective teaching.
As a student teacher, I got the pleasure to observe two of lessons that were
conducted by my friend at the college. The most important competencies I
ensured while observing her is professionalism. I talked to her first and I
informed her that I would like to observe her in order to gain experience
from her and get benefit from her teaching strategies. We both scheduled
an appropriate time and date that would be suitable for both of us. I
attended the first class and I prepared all the materials that I need to
evaluate her. I ensured that my feedback is concrete, specific and useful. I
took some notes to share with her after she finishes the lesson. To be more
specific while giving feedback especially because it was my first time giving
feedback to someone. I sat my goal for this observation session to focus on
the effectiveness of demonstrating activities, familiarity with students
names, reinforcement phrases and time management. I was amazed with
my friends performance, she was very eager to teach in front of the
students, she was scaffolding the students all the time in order to help them
reach the right answer which was mainly a student-centered learning. As
soon as she finished the class, I sat with her and asked her about what she
thought about her lesson. She was very happy about her performance and
me as well. I started the feedback by telling her the strengths. Then when it
came the areas of development. I told her about time management and
how it is crucial to assign a specific time for each activity in order to make
students more focused in each activity. In addition, I gave her an advice of
using an online alarm to set a time which would be beneficial. In the other
hand, I commented on proving clear and simple instructions to the students
through modeling the instructions because its always better to model
rather than long winded instruction. My friend listened to me very carefully
which was a good sign on how she like to improve her skills. After we

finished from the first session, we sat together the future focus and
scheduled together the second observation lesson. I sent her a hard copy of
the feedback so, she can look at it again and read it in more detailed way.
For the second observation lesson, I was focusing more on the notes that I
gave her in the previous lesson, so it would help me in assisting her
improvements and performance.

I was amazed that she was really able to manage the time for each given
task and the students were able to finish the tasks on time which was a
good sign on how feedback is important in the teaching process. I noticed
also, that her instructions were clearer than the previous lesson which what
makes feedback a great instrumental tool to improve our teaching
strategies. Moreover, there were some suggestions for her to improve her
skills more such as, checking students understanding of the instructions
which what she agreed on it as well.

I believe that this type of feedback taught me a lot. I learnt how important it
is to listen to the others feedback in order to focus and improve our selves.
Moreover, observing my friend gave me a lot of effective strategies that I
can use them for my own teaching. Because feedback is a critical skill, I
believe that it is beneficial for both the giver and the receiver. From my own
perspective, feedback is a substantial tool to motivate others, develop
performance and to keep learning because without feedback I wouldnt
have the chance to learn and improve my skills.
