Curriculum: This year, we will be using an EXCITING new Middle School curriculum called
Quaver. This is an on-line resource that offers students a fresh perspective with engaging musical
lessons and activities. Students will be setting up a user name and password to access lessons and
activities during class and at home. Technology is such a vital tool in education, and in general
music, we will use laptops and tablets during class time to access assessments and various activities.
In addition, there will be some occasions where students will be allowed to use cell phones (if
they dont have a phone to use, they can use a school laptop or tablet) for in-class activities. On
these occasions, students are expected to follow the PACE Academy technology usage rules and
expectations. There are two FREE apps that students should download on their devices: Qnex
(Quavers Marvelous World of Music) and Qstudent. In addition, if students are using an iPhone,
they will need to also download a third FREE app: Puffin Academy. This app will allow them to
access the Flash portions of the website. Android users do not need to download the Puffin
Academy app. We will train in class regarding how to use these apps and the website in general for
those who will access activities and assessments that way. I will let students know ahead of time
when they will need their devices in class, so students should not bring them to class unless told to

do so. You can take a look at the quaver curriculum here http://www.quavermusic.com/Default.aspx
and I encourage all students to play around on the site and familiarize themselves with the games
and activities:
Grading Policy: Students will be assessed weekly based on participation and
daily/weekly assignments and assessments.
