Lesson Plan Evaluation & Teaching Reflection
Was the content worth knowing? Support your response.
-The content was worth knowing because it shows different ways our country and community was
developed and raised their awareness about Black History and how treatment of people was not
always fair.
Describe how the activity was developmentally appropriate.
-The activity was developmentally appropriate because after reading about each person, they had
to choose one to narrow their focus on. Then they had to pick out certain details and show their
knowledge on the paper.
Give an example of how you know the activity was interesting to the children.
-The children had a LOT of questions as they were going and I think that shows they are
interested because they want to do it right. Also, I hung them up in the hallway once they were
finished and they were excited to see and try to guess everyones.
Describe how the activity included opportunities for the children to test their knowledge.
-One of the ways this tested their knowledge was when I asked them to make a connection. They
had to think of all the things they had heard of before and try to find something that matched with
their person. This was challenging for many of the students.
Describe a follow up activity that would build on concepts you have presented.
-One follow up activity could have been a short quiz over all of the people. This would make sure
they know each of the people, not just their own project, and they could use each others projects
to study.
What behavior(s) did you observe while presenting the activity? What do you think caused the
behavior(s)?
-I noticed a large amount of questions during the activity. I think that was because they had never
done a project like this before and a lot of them want to make sure they are doing it right. They
also have a hard time listening when instructions were given, so I find myself repeating a lot of
things.
How did you involve the children in the closure of the activity?
-I involved the kids at the end of the activity by hanging them up in the hall and letting them go and
guess who other students did. They seemed to enjoy it.
Describe what changes you would make and what you would keep the same if you presented the
activity again.
-I would keep the majority of it the same if I were to do it again. Instead of letting them choose, I
would assign each student a person in order to force diversity and make sure each person was chosen.
I also might quiz them at the end to make sure they learned something about each person and not just
the one they did their project on.
