Alonso Mudarra

Six Pieces for Renaissance guitar

Tres Libros de Musica

Transcribed into modern notation by Alain Veylit

These pieces for Renaissance guitar were published in 1546 by Alfonso Mudarra, as part of his Tres libros de Musica para
vihuela. The original tuning of the Renaissance guitar was from the treble down: A E C G. The lowest, 4th course was octaved
in the same way as "bourdons" were octaved on a Renaissance lute. So, the relative tuning was equivalent to that of the 4 upper
strings of a modern guitar, and the pieces can be played at pitch with the original fingerings with a capo on the 5th fret.
