Guarantees free public education for children with
disabilities.
Assures the rights of the parents are protected
Assists the states and locations which provide an
education for children with disabilities
Assures the effectiveness of efforts made when
teaching these children
This law supported more than 1 million children
who were denied the ability to have an education

I.D.E.A
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act is a
law which ensures services to children with
disabilities
It provides special education, early intervention,
and much more to over 6.5 million children across
the nation.

I.E.P
An IEP is an Individualized Education Program.
The parents or school may form an IEP team and
review that the participating child is reaching their
goals
They should take into consideration the childs
strengths and methods of enhancing the childs
education

John F. Miller
This special education school teaches the most
medically fragile and disabled children
A couple extra programs they have are vision
services and mobility/orientation
They may also participate in art, music, and
adapted PE classes
Each student is taught depending on their IEP
Motto is All Children Can Learn

Helen J. Stewart
Focuses of their students being a part of their
community and living a normal life
They work on daily living, functional academics,
vocational, communication, behavioral, and
transitional needs
Includes a cardio room, barn w/ farm animals,
sensory room, computer lab, greenhouse facilities,
and daily living skills room
They have speech therapists, physical therapists,
and occupational therapists that helps with the
children

Miley Achievement Center


Their focus is to prepare students for lifes journey
by providing social skill instruction, selfmanagement and responsibility training
This special needs school deals with students
affected by emotional or behavioral disorders
They have a counseling approach with their
lessons

Variety
This school was built when a group realized our
community needed a special needs school instead
of working with adjoining states.
They provide full academic and vocational
programs
At this school children with special needs are
prepared to compete in the job market, make their
own decisions and learn basic needs to adapt into
the community

Homebound
Homebound Instructional Services provides an
education for those general or special education
children who for some reason may not attend
school
The teachers who work for Homebound may be
full time or part time, those who are full time work
at a CCSD school during the day and in the
afternoons travel to the students home to provide
one on one instruction
The general education students do their schooling
online through Distance Education, independent
study or Compass Learning

Least Restrictive Environment


In a least restrictive environment children with
disabilities are taught with children who are not
disabled
The only moment they are separated from the
rest is if the severity of their disability prohibits
them from learning the way they should
