Course Description:

Investigation of the psychosocial aspects of oncologic patient care, including


thanatology and bereavement, body image and emotions in illness and treatment.
Students also explore electronic medical records and charting, treatment error
corrections, and legal and ethical issues.
Discussion and review of dosimetry credentialing mechanisms is also addressed.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the student should be able to:


1. Explain the psychosocial aspects of oncologic patient care.
2. Explain thanatology and bereavement in reference to radiation oncology
patients.
3. Evaluate body image and emotions in illness and treatment.
4. Analyze typical electronic medical record and charting procedures.
5. Analyze treatment error correction procedures.
6. Assess quality assurance procedures for simulator, linear accelerator, and
brachytherapy equipment.
7. Create a continuous quality improvement plan for a clinical setting.
8. Analyze legal aspects of medical dosimetry practice.
9. Evaluate ethical issues related to medical dosimetry.
10. Summarize a plan for completion of the national examination in medical
dosimetry.

Proper salutations as well as complete sentences are expected when faculty is
