Title:
Students will learn that everyday household objects can be used in new and
creative ways by creating stamps out of found objects within the classroom.
Students will explore shapes and textures that can be created using found objects
and, through the repetitious nature of this exploration, create compositional rhythm and
movement.

First we will show students the materials we will be working with (household objects) and ask them if
they can think of any ways we could use them to make art. We will then show an example of a completed
texture book and demonstrate some ways with which we can use household objects as stamps to create
shape and texture.
Household Items: String, leaves, fabric, stamps, cardboard, tape, etc.

Introduction/ motivation/ demonstration/ introduce paper making station which will be important in the book making
process.
Transition by presenting students with the full range of materials (i.e Household objects, pre-cut stamps, fabric, string,
etc.)
Students will choose the materials based on individual interest and attraction to the shape and texture
Paints and paper will be provided on tables, so students will be able to get right to work
Pre-cut stamps will be at one station, fibrous materials will be at a second station, non-porous materials and readymades at a third station, and a paper-making station will be at a fourth station and will be available for students to work at
while their other pieces dry (the paper they make will be used for book covers and collagraphs next class)
After explaining the different stations, students will be able to move throughout the stations, discovering new objects
and textures with each, the idea being that the differentiation of materials at each station will prolong the discovery
experience
Students will go through stations and will complete no less than six explorations for their books
We will transition by gathering back together (catch and release tactic) and demonstrate how construct their own
books
With our help, students will tie their books together with string
We will wrap up class by allowing students to share their work and talk about their discoveries.
