Learning Theories
There are 3 learning
theories:
Behavioral
Cognitive
Constructivist
Behavioral
This theory typical follows a
direct or teacher-centered
approach to teaching
Some techniques use drill and
practice and stimulus
Cognitive Theory
Human memory can process information
in two ways: visual and auditory stimuli
Learning occurs when learners use
mental processes to take in, interpret,
store and retrieve information that is
presented to them
New knowledge is becoming a part of
a learners knowledge network, where
it can become meaningful and useful
if its well integrated or added to prior
knowledge
Where learners can retrieve
information already learned, or
where they can construct
knowledge that wasnt learned but
inferred from the environment
around them
Constructivist
We are in charge of our own
knowledge
If we want to know something, we
need to ask questions, explore, and
assess our knowledge
Mini Unit
Lesson 1: Water and its States of Matter
Water can exist in its three states of matter and
each state has its own properties
States can also change from one form to another
Constructivist Applications in
Lesson 1
Water experiment
about the properties of
a solid and a liquid
KWL chart
Demonstrating how
water molecules move
as it changes from
one state to another
Constructivist Applications in
Lesson 2
Engage student thinking about
water coverage on the earth
Popcorn pass using an
inflatable globe
Student groups making
observations using inflatable
globe, big class maps, atlases,
and/or a spinning globe about
the water sources
Student models of a well
Constructivist Applications in
Lesson 3
Uses of water
brainstorming
