Reasons Against Gun Control
Picture this, youre in your home, your putting your 6-year-old son and
daughter to bed, you tell them goodnight and that you love them, you close the
door behind you and walk down the hall to your room. On the way there you here a
crash, you have a pet so you dont think much of it. You lie down next to your
significant other and here another crash and a scream, you sprint to your childrens
room, only to find that a man has a gun pointed at your daughters head. You keep a
gun on the dresser out of reach of the children but easily accessible in a situation
like this, you reach for it out of instinct only to remember that guns where outlawed
a few weeks ago and you now have no way of defending your family. This is why we
cannot allow gun control to be stricter. With the amount of gun related incidents
lately, such as the ones in San Bernardino and Paris, many people are frightened
about their safety. In this blind fear, many people rush to impose stricter gun
control. However, stricter gun control will have a very negative effect on the United
States for many reasons.
If we allow gun control to be strengthened, it will be much more difficult for
the average person who only wants to defend their family or shoot for sport to
obtain a gun. However, for criminals it will be just as simple as before to get a gun
because they were, most of the time, getting guns illegally to begin with. So in
taking away guns from average people, it will make it easier for crimes to occur
because if a criminal has a choice to commit a crime in a home that says gun free
over a house that says beware of gun the criminal is going to pick the softer
target. In the case of the attacks on Paris recently, since their gun control policy is
categorized as restrictive and the right to own firearms is not protected by law
(gunpolicy.org), civilians having guns could have had a very different outcome. And
according to (Granderson) gun shops are illegal in Chicago. They also have bans on
assault rifles and extended magazines. But there are still more American gun
deaths there than in the whole war in Iraq. Gun control in both places only makes it
harder for good people to protect themselves from criminals. Not all deaths
involving guns are the same, therefore trying to address each incident from the
same point of view is useless and we need to stop jumping to gun control every
time there is a gun related incident.
Also, there are many studies to show that banning guns is not the answer to
stopping murder. People will always find other ways to kill others without firearms.
According to (FlameHorse) the murder rate in the UK was 1.12 per every 100,000
citizens in 1996. Then in 1997, when they banned hand guns, that rate rose to 1.24.
The numbers kept climbing to 2.1 in 2002. Also in 2005 there were 764 intentional
murders in the UK with guns still banned. The weapons used included guns, knives,

blunt objects, strangulation, fire, and poison. People still kill people with guns even
with a ban in place for over 8 years. Furthermore, if the government takes away our
constitutional right to own firearms or tell us which ones we can and cant buy, then
who is to say that they will not try to take or limit other rights like freedom of
speech and freedom of religion Thecrux.com.
Gun control is a big issue that could very well be a big factor in the decision
of who will be the president of the united states in the 2016 election. This issue
concerns the safety of the American people and the ability to defend ourselves in
the face of home invasions, criminals, and terrorists. To continue this research, I
would take a poll to compare the amount of people for or against gun control, and
possibly go to gun store to see what reasons they have to not impose more
restrictions.
Gun control is not the answer; gun control is something that sheltered people
jump to in an attempt to stop gun violence. However gun control will only make it
easier for gun related crimes to happen because criminals will always be able to get
illegal guns the same as they always have.
