Q2

AMC FKP Sdn Bhd is conducting a study to evaluate the capability of its batteries
production line. Recently, the company has received complain from retailers that its
batteries are not lasting as long as the other brands. The company believes that there is
no problem because the batteries have been designed to have a targeted life of 60
hours, which is 10% longer than competitors model. After ensuring that the process
was running properly, samples of data were taken for each 25 hours shown in Table 2.

(a)

Develop and comment on the current condition of this product using suitable
control chart.

(b)

After evaluation made through the initial capability study of data in Table 2, the
Research and Development (R&D) group decide to introduce new technology to
increase the quality of the batteries life with lower and upper specification limits
of 66 and 54 hours. Another study conducted with other samples were collected,
the new average batteries life was 59.2 hours with 1.4 hours of standard
deviation value.
Evaluate and comment on the impact of the new technology proposed by R&D
group on the battery life time.
