B-2-3 Demonstrate knowledge and ability to apply
critical thinking and critical inquiry to generate nursing
diagnosis using data from comprehensive holistic
assessment:
o

identify actual and potential

concerns/health issues

research and validate components of

client issues and concerns

apply nursing diagnosis framework

One significant learning experience related to the

CLPNA competency was the Development of a Teaching
Plan with the importance of hand hygiene. An example
would be when I had to use my critical thinking to create
a nursing diagnosis based off my clients health needs
and assessment related to the hand washing teaching
plan. Researching data related to the clients assessment
and incorporating the steps of the nursing framework was
essential because it improved the organization and
effectiveness of the teaching plan.
I learned how my application of critical thinking is
important in order to create a customized nursing
diagnosis based on the clients specific assessment and
hand hygiene needs. I also learned how data assessment
is vital in the generation of a nursing diagnosis pertaining
to the clients specific hand washing method.
That is related to the competency because the focus of
the competency is to generate a nursing diagnosis by
using data from a comprehensive holistic assessment in
addition to critical thinking, in order to identify the
clients actual and potential concerns.
The ability to apply critical thinking skills was
meaningful because it expanded my understanding of the
clients hand hygienic health related issues, which
resulted in an affective implementation of a nursing
diagnosis in order to improve the clients hand hygiene.
The performance of research and collection of
assessment data was meaningful because it provided a
customized understanding of the patients actual and
potential concerns when it came to washing his hands.

Witnessing my client improving their hand hygiene

based off my critical thinking and assessment was
meaningful because it made me feel as if I impacted their
hygiene routine in a positive way.

APPLY THIS LEARNING IN YOUR
CURRENT AND FUTURE
NURSING PRACTICE

Proficiency category rating: Good: understands

competency in theory and in scenarios and nursing
practice
My previous knowledge gained in NFDN 1001 and
continuing knowledge in NFDN 1002 related to
developing nursing diagnoses, assisted me in achieving
the competency. Along with the material learned in
NFDN 1002 lab, was helpful in bettering my
understanding of the competency because the practical
implementation of critical thinking in lab scenarios was
used to generate specific health related nursing
diagnoses. The identification of health concerns and
research of health issues was done to achieve the
competency because it provided me with an accurate
understanding of the patients background as well as the
patients actual and potential health concerns. The
assessment analysis was performed to achieve the
competency because it was significant in providing the
clients current hygiene health status.
I will apply this learning in my current nursing practice
by using the critical thinking skills I have retained, and
use them to help me in similar scenarios as well as
applying them in the exams, so that I can develop an
accurate nursing diagnosis. I will utilize the skills
developed in the teaching plan, to improve my own hand
hygiene when it comes to the CIA and labs.
I will apply my critical thinking and nursing diagnosis
skills in my future nursing practice by making health
related decisions in order to provide optimal patient care
and safety.
