In America today with all of the fast food, processed food, and
low physical activity in our lifestyles our children are obese and in poor
health. I think physical activity that is enjoyable can enrich every area
of our lives. According to the P.E. frameworks students participating
in daily physical education exhibit better attendance, a more positive
attitude towards school and superior academic performance California
School Boards Association 2006. Frameworks p.8 I also believe that
physical education helps strengthen cognitive ability. During P.E. you
have to listen and follow direction and coordinate you cognitive and
physical processes to complete the task at hand. Sadly in schools
today P.E. has been cut along with the arts. As a teacher on the
elementary school level I will try to find ways to incorporate movement
and P.E to my daily schedule.
In my Kinesiology 425 class we learned the rules of sports and
playground games. We also learnt the proper way to perform various
movements and activities. One thing that I never realized is if you are
trying to explain some of the movements that are somewhat second
nature you really have to think about it. We learnt how to explain
specifically step by step how to perform movement. It was challenging
to me at first to learn to do this but I learnt throw experience. We
practiced a new movement each day using the proper form.
This artifact is a lesson that teaches kids the simple task of an
underhand throw. I was sure to include each step involved in executing
an underhand throw. One thing that is fun to do is to incorporate a fun
activity into your lesson for this one I chose a bean bag toss. In this
class we got multiple chances t teach lessons to our class mates. I got
a lot practice demonstrating movement to my classmates. I realized in
teaching these lessons that you really have to make sure that you have
enough activity and equipment so you dont have children standing
around idly. I feel confident in teaching this type of lesson. I really got
thoroughly prepared to teach P.E. in my Kinesiology class.
