Medical Ethical Dilemma

By: Carina Cervantes

SURROGATE MOTHERS
FOR- Many people agree of Surrogacy because, many females are
unable to carry the baby and should still have the opportunity to have a
baby.

AGAINST- Many people who are religious, disagree with Surrogacy,

because during a pregnancy a woman is supposed to bond with her
unborn baby. Con speakers claim that surrogacy prevents the mother
from forming a natural bond to her baby and therefore forces her to
emotionally detach herself from her pregnancy.

Current Events and New Report

Most Christian bioethicists and

legal scholars would agree that
commercial surrogacy is morally and
legally problematic since it constitutes the

Scientific

The science behind surrogacy is that a 'test tube' baby is created in a

laboratory then inserted into the womb of a surrogate mother.
The test tube baby is created by having sperm within the test tube then
dropping an egg to be able to fertilised. Surrogacy has been characterised as
a reproductive technology. Meaning that surrogacy uses unnatural ways to
produce younglings.
Surrogacy is a highly complex process and there are many steps included to
make sure that both parties are making the right decision. These may include
counselling, psychiatric assessment and independent legal advice.
In surrogacy, an embryo is created in a lab using sperm and an egg from the
intended parents or of those of a donator. This embryo is then transferred into
the surrogate mother. The surrogate mother will have no genetic link towards
the child. Her eggs cannot be used to conceive the child.
