L-2 Pediatric Care Interventions. L-2-6 Demonstrate knowledge and

ability to assess home environment, family dynamics and access to
resources.

One significant experience in this course that I have experienced is

learning on how to assess home environment, family dynamics and
access to resources. After every unit that we discuss, the last slide
would always be a nursing metaparadigm and we discuss how each of
them will affect the childs health. We were also taught not to judge
any parent in the way they up bring their children but to always
educate and to support them in the best way possible. Having the
ability to assess the childs home environment, family dynamics and
access to resources will enable me to care better for my client and to
provide them the resources they need.
I have learned that the ability to assess the home environment, family
dynamics and access to resources will play a very important role on
what support and what other interventions needs to be done. It will
give me the bigger picture on why the problem is happening rather
than having to look on the problem that is happening at that very
moment. Having to assess the home environment, family dynamics
and access to resources will also help me to evaluate of how high the
percentage of reoccurrence will be or what other potential problems
that could happen. It will also enable me to give the best resources,
education and family support that they need regarding their situation.
Hence, the ability to assess all of these will lead to best nursing
practice and will enable me to give the best care to my client. It will
be also meaningful for me because it will enable me to become better
in my profession and will enable me to respond quickly and efficiently
in stressful situations.
I rate myself as fair. This means that I understand competency in
theory. I havent got the chance to practice what I have learned in
scenarios or in lab. I am a new nurse so I rate myself as fair. I know
that once I have enough exposure and experience in the different
events in the real world including the stressful times I will be
confident enough and competent in my career.

I will apply this learning in my current practice by reading and

understanding the book and by paying attention in theory so I will
know what interventions to do whenever I have found abnormal
findings. I will apply this in future practice by ensuring that I have not
missed any information from that client that needs to be addressed and
by not judging the parents on their upbringing in their children. By not
judging the parents on their upbringing will enable me to build trust
and rapport with them; this will enable me to assess them further and
let me give the best care possible. I will also apply this in future
practice by ensuring that I have considered the nursing metaparadigm
to give me the best care I could give and to prevent the reoccurrence
of the situation.
