CITR Exam Creation Reflection

In the creation of a CITR exam I was fairly knowledgeable of the novel Catcher in the
Rye by J. D. Salinger. The process was I created questions and answers to produce a test about
the novel. I used a plethora of elements to create this questions these elements are Knowledge,
Comprehension, Synthesis, Analysis, Application, and Evaluation. These elements helped me
develop easy questions to high level critical thinking questions that made my test progress in
difficulty from easy to hard throughout the duration of my test. In these questions I included
quotes to add depth to my questions so they had to think about the question or they assisted the
reader in answering the question. At the end of the test I provided two long essay questions for
the test taker had to answer, these questions were quite open-ended so the reader could put down
their answers and opinion down. The process of creating a test scaling difficulty was actually
difficult for me as well.
When I finished creating the test it helped me provide a new point of view of these
difficult tests the teachers created. When I finally completed the test is was very satisfying for me
because I felt that my test was effective in providing different levels of difficulty in an effective
way. The process of creating this test was very tedious, but I felt acquiring this new point of view
on test creation was worth the trouble. I felt that this exam was difficult to create and took a good
time and thought. What I really enjoyed was taking other peoples tests at the end of the project, I
also enjoyed that I gave my test to someone else to take. This test creation and test taking process
was a new unique experience that I enjoyed an immense amount. What I disliked about the
project was the amount of quote integration that was required. Some quotes I integrated with
some questions I felt that they were not highly necessary. Though I understand why we had to
create these difficult quote integrated questions.

When the project was coming to a close all the peers in the class traded tests to take. I felt
that many tests that were created were fairly in the similar format. I felt I did differently was that
my answer key provided explanations to my answers, which I felt would clear arguments over
answers on the test. There were many processes that were common amongst the creation of all
these tests. Using the certain skills in the questions of the test which were Word Choice,
Meaning, Rhetorical Elements, Tone, Compare/Contrast representations. Also in creation of the
questions on the test was that the BLOOM template was used across all tests having a certain
amount of questions for d of question. For example two knowledge questions or five analysis
questions. Also for quote integration we all had to use twelve quotes so there were many
questions in all tests using quotes.
The creation of these test was a new and enjoyable experience, there are many revisions
and I would have made to improve the grade I received. One revision I would have done is that
properly use the rhetorical elements by actually addressing them in the answers or in the question
to improve my grade. Another revision I would have done is that provide proper feedback, the
response I gave to the test creator was not a lot. If I added more to my response and reactions to
the test that I would have improved my grade in a minor way, but still I improved my grade if
were to create the revision.
