Connection/Relevance: Ms. Byrum was an advisee and a student in a number of my exercise


science courses. She and I had many formal and informal interactions inside and out of the
classroom. Two highlights for me were serving as her Alpha Chi Honor Society Faculty Sponsor
and serving as her undergraduate research mentor, which resulted in a paper we submitted for
publication entitled: The Influence of Pencil Grasp on Handwriting Speed, Legibility, Fatigue,
and Data Entry Preference in College Students. Charity can/will speak to my ability to engage
students in scholarship, and mentor them through the research process.

Connection/Relevance: Ms. Pashkova completed the first undergraduate exercise science thesis
at Gardner-Webb University, in addition to being the brightest student I have had the honor to

Connection/Relevance: Mrs. Miller was an advisee and a student in a number of my health and
wellness courses. I served as Kaitlyns faculty mentor during a summer scholars research project,
which resulted in a third place undergraduate poster presentation recognition at the Southeastern
American College of Sports Medicine (SEACSM) Regional Conference in Greenville, SC. I also
had the distinct pleasure of taking Mrs. Miller to interview with some of my previous faculty
mentors at The University of Virginia, where Kaitlyn completed her Masters degree in the Curry
School of Education.
