Course Description
Math:
LSMA101-This course is designed to teach skills that will increase the students ability to read, write,
compute, and solve problems using whole numbers, fractions, decimals, and percentages. The
operational areas of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division are emphasized in a practical
real world context to provide the students a link between their everyday lives and the use of
mathematics. Additionally, in LSMA201 students gain skills using calculators, working with various
units of measurement, and basic money skills. Besides learning the skills mentioned, students in
LSMA301 and LSMA401 get an increased emphasis on personal/job related money management
and banking skills.
Basic Life Skills/Social Studies:
LSSS101 and LSSS201-This course is designed to teach the acquisition of career goals. The various
job clusters will be explored and field trips will be used for students to observe workers
around their job sites, taking to the actual workers and begin to decide on a career of their
own. Included will be the skills of resume writing, interview taking and presenting you in a
favorable light. Examples of the practicum include: the proper ways to answer a phone,
use a cash register, and appropriate methods to greeting people.

LSSS301-This course is designed to teach the skills necessary to become involved in the
community. Skill areas will include voluntary service to the aged, community awareness
and voluntary service organization.

LSSS401-This course is designed to teach the skills necessary to become involved in the
community. Skill areas will include voluntary service to the aged, community awareness
and voluntary service organization.
Quarterly Skills/Course Objectives
Quarterly skills will be focused on preparing students for their alternate assessment given at the
end of the school year. The skills below will be addressed and may take more than one quarter to
complete because each student is different and move at a different pace.
Math:
9th: Apply laws of exponents and solve problems with units or scales.
10th: Add/subtract 2 by 2 or 3 by 3 matrices and find measurements indirectly from a scale drawing.
11th: Find the magnitude and direction of vectors and use formulas to find measurements.
12th: Find the points on the complex plane and find the surface areas and volumes of prisms,
cylinders, pyramids, cones, and spheres.
Social Studies:
9th /10th: Identify cultural values, languages, lifestyle, and heritage of different ethnic groups.
Identify political or legal ideas in significant historical documents.
11th:
Identify significant events and life in the U.S. Identify structure and powers or local
government.

12 :
Identify cultural responses to persistent human needs and contemporary issues. Identify
powers and organization of national government.
Learning Outcomes/Learning Targets
Besides learning Basic English, math, science, and social studies/basic life skills, students will learn
concepts their grade level peers are learning in the general education class (mentioned in quarterly
skills). In addition, students will be working on meeting their goals stated in their individual
education program (IEP).

Discipline Intervention
Parents will receive a note or call from the teacher if there are any concerns regarding behavior. If
the behavior is consistent and all interventions have been taken then a referral will be turned in to
the administrator.

Participation (45%):
Participation includes cooperation, following directions, time on task, assignments, and trials for
concepts taught.

Assessments (45%):
Assessments will be completed by the teacher through observation, teacher documentation, or
students work.
Project (10%):
Students will complete projects on what they are learning in class. Projects vary and will be done
individually or in groups.
Attendance
Students that accumulate 6 days of unexcused absences will receive no credit for the semester
according to Board Policy 411. Parent notes may be written when a student is absent and only 6
days are allowed to be excused for one semester. If the student is absent for 3 consecutive days, a
doctors note is needed to excuse the absences. When a student accumulates 3 unexcused tardies,
the student will receive 1 unexcused absence. Please be informed under Board Policy 330, each
student has six consecutive years to complete graduation requirement beginning with the first year
(9th grade). Students who are unable to complete their graduation requirement may be denied
entrance to school in subsequent years. Permission to return to school may therefore be denied to
dropout students if they would be unable to complete their graduation requirements by the end of
the six-year period.

Materials:
Folder paper, pencils, erasers, colored pencil or colored pens, glue, small scissors, bag or container
with students name on it (to hold pencils, erasers, etc.), composition book (used as a
communication book) and extra set of clothes & towel (to be kept in room for emergency purpose).
Service Learning
Students in grades 9th-12th are required to complete service learning hours to fulfill graduation
requirements. All students will be given the opportunity each quarter in school and outside of
school to complete their hours. Details of opportunities will be sent home through their
communication books. The student will need to complete at least 5 hours of service learning for
every course him/her is enrolled in my class.
Homework and Make-up work
Homework is due the next meeting date and only sent home to reinforce skills they have learned in
class. Students with excused absences have the opportunity to complete assignments they have
missed in class. Any make-up work given to the student will be due one week from the day it was
issued.
Field Trip Policy
Field trips forms have to be signed by the parent and the teachers (for the classes they will be
missing) for the student to participate in the field trip. They will also have to be in full uniform.

STUDENT MEDIA RELEASE STATEMENT:
In an effort to promote school events, your childs photo may be posted on the school
