To reflect on the writing styles explored throughout the year.

Success Criteria:
I have accessed the portal to review my knowledge of skills developed throughout the
year
I have written 4 different paragraphs about 4 different memories focusing on each of the
4 writing foci: to describe, persuade, inform and explain.
I have used the skills required for each of my 4 paragraphs.

Before writing YOU MUST access the relevant page on the portal to review the relevant
writing skills.

Writing to DESCRIBE
Recap: Show dont tell, slowing down time, character sketch, place description
Skills required: Slowing down time, simile or metaphor, some form of figurative language (see
poetry page)
Writing to PERSUADE
Recap: Use of sentence starters, emotive and high modality words, consideration of target
audience.
Skills required: Title using alliteration, high modality and emotive words.
Writing to INFORM
Recap: Looked at memoirs and script writing.
Skills required: Represent 3 of the 5 senses.
Writing to EXPLAIN
Recap: Research/paraphrasing, action verbs, conjunctions, time connectives, present tense.
Skills required: Time connectives and present tense.
