LA HORA/THE TIME
Allocated Time: 1 Hour
Anticipatory Set: We will practice our numbers 1-31 to warm up. We
have been working on this for the past week or so and will continue
using what we learned to count all the way to 60. I will also ask a
variety of questions making them use all of the vocab that we have
learned in the past week.
Objective and Purpose:
TLW recite and record vocabulary regarding telling time.
TLW practice asking what time is it? and responding in the
target language.
TLW write various recorded times in the target language.
TLW count to 60 out loud.
ACTFL Standards:
1.1.A.RW.f - Share in writing an analysis and comparison of
attributes of places and things in the target culture by providing
a detailed description
2.1.A.F.b - Analyze the cultural beliefs, values, and perspectives
associated with time and daily routines
Input: As a class, we will read pages 9-11. On page 9, we will continue
counting to 60 so that students can accurately tell the time in Spanish.

Modeling: The students will repeat the number after I say it as they
read it out of the book as well.
Input: We will then continue to page 10 where we will read through the
page and discuss how to tell the time, ask what time it is, and correctly
say the time. They will record this new vocab on the vocab sheets that
they already have.
Modeling: I will model how to say these phrases and have them repeat
them.
Guided Practice: I will show them the activity that we are going to do
and explain how I would like them to do it. What will happen is that
each student will tape a watch on his or her wrists that has a distinct
time on it. The students will also receive the attached worksheet that
asks for names and times. The students will then mingle around the
classroom and ask different students what time it is and their partner
will answer in Spanish. The students will record their partners name
and what time they said it was and then switch to a different partner.
Modeling: I will model to the students the noise level, behavior,
questions and responses that they should use during the activity. I will
also model how they should write their responses on their record
sheets.
Checking for Understanding: I will check for understanding my
wandering around the room to check the students record sheets and
listen in on conversations during the activity. I will make corrections to
the whole class when needed if I notice a common error. After the
activity is done, I will ask several people to offer up what time one of
their partners had on their watch to make sure we got some right
answers. Students will hand in their worksheet.
Independent Practice: Students will do a page from the workbook for
homework that has them practicing time.
Evaluation Criteria: Students will be evaluated on their participation in
classroom activities as well as the completion of their telling time
worksheet.
