Community Project - Session Planner

Project Name:Creative Digital Sound

Facilitator (your name): Stewart McLean
Date: 29/02/16
Times of Session: 16:00 17:00
Session no: 3
Project Supervisor/Gatekeeper: Lesley Crawford
Your main objective for this session:

Participants will get a chance to familiarise themselves with

the synthesisers
Create a chord progression using the synthesisers
Participants will learn of their role playing in the ensemble
Participants will get a chance to play together as a group

Planned Activities for this session:

At the beginning of the session participants will do some solo

play in order to familiarise themselves with their chosen
synthesiser sound.
Participants, with the aid of Lesley and I, will begin to create a
chord progression for their section of the composition.
Participants will begin merging together their chosen sounds
and identify the certain parts/roles each has to play.
Participants will practise this section with drums played by
Lesley and bass played by me.

How did it go reflecting on this?

The session went well this week. Unlike last session there were a lot
more successful group activities. As a group we were able to be a lot
more creatively minded together , involving a great emphasis in
communication, which I feel participants benefited a lot from.
Perhaps the session could have been a bit more structured, playing
together and coming up with ideas did take us a bit more time than
we anticipated. However it is an informal style of learning, and due

to the nature of this work, it is important to remain flexible,

minimising pressure on participants - which I believe is a more
enjoyable and fun way of learning.

The level of engagement and/or achievement by participants:

There was a great deal of engagement during this session, everyone
felt included in the group activities and were able to identify quickly
and confidently their role in the ensemble. The style of learning we
adopted in this session, meant participants felt comfortable adding
their section to the ensemble. This made it possible to come up with
a section of music that was both an achievement and representative
of each participants expressions and taste in music.

Feedback/observations and any pointers to enhance or improve the

next session:
Although participants were clearly able to work well as an ensemble
there were many times they weren't listening to others and focusing
more on their own sound, which didn't quite fit in with the rest of the
ensemble. Next week I would like to put more emphasis on listening
to others and making more of an effort to work with the group.
