learning about the signs and symptoms some

women experience when pregnant. In my learning I
understood that the proof that a women is actually
pregnant is having a pregnancy test because some
signs ans symptoms might just be as a result of

sickness. One of the first signs and symptoms of

pregnancy is Amenorrhea absence of menstruation
and within 1 - 3 weeks the women start to feel
nausea and vomiting, fatigue feeling of tiredness,
tender breast dark nipples, food craving and
aversion to sensitive smell, Tingling and as the
weeks go by she feel frequent urination (Polyuria)
uterine enlargement, quickening (fetal movement
felt in the womb) Linea nigra (line of dark pigment
forms around the abdomen) Melasma (dark
pigment forms on the face, Striae gravidarum

I learnt that the cause of this changes and feelings is due to the
increase in pregnancy hormones, oestrogen and also that thyroid
hormone thyroxine could also be adding to it.

setting. The understanding I have gained through lectures, in class
and reading text book have provided me with the background that
would be valuable in the medical setting.

This learning was meaningful to me because as a woman if I wish

to get pregnant in the future I already know what to expect and it
will not come to me as a surprise or shock. I will just concentrate
on the remedy that could relieve me some of the symptoms. It is
also meaningful to me because I will be able to educate friends and
family members that I suspect to be pregnant and those of them that
wish to get pregnant in the future. It will give me me satisfaction to

NURSING PRACTICE

I will apply this learning in the clinical setting during my clinical

training. I would welcome the opportunity of applying my
understanding of this learning in different case and scenario that I
may encounter. I will also use this information to educate patients
and their family members signs and symptoms of pregnancy so that
they done get shocked and confused on what is happening to them
when they are pregnant.
