Task 1A

Familiarisation with the classroom:


Teaching Strategies:
Teacher grouped her students either by ability or mixed ability
The I-pad app called team shaker was used to help put students in
groups when needed at random
Teacher encouraged group and partner work within the classroom
Teacher often used open ended classroom questions to promote
discussion on a particular topic e.g. bike education
Classroom teacher works in collaboration with other grade 3 teacher
Classroom Management:
It was apparent that students knew what was expected of them,
thus creating a calm, organised environment
Students had a morning routine (come in room, sit down, begin
prayer, complete role)
Students knew to stop when the teacher said freeze
Students knew to stop when teacher claps
Students knew to stop when the teacher asked them to stop, look
and listen.
If a student misbehaved (not very often) they were asked to talk one
on one with classroom teacher
A positive environment with praise and reinforcement was apparent
Students tended to cooperate within this environment
Teaching Techniques:
The use of the 3 phase model was used throughout the lessons
(introduction, body and conclusion)
Teacher used ICT to tune children into lessons e.g video clips, power
points
Teacher also used ICT to investigate and explore idea e.g. looking up
recipes on Woolworths website to learn how to budget
Teacher used open ended questions
Teacher used pre planned questions to promote and prompt thinking
and class discussion
Students were quite prompt in beginning a class task due to set
routines
Teacher demonstrated a range of assessment strategies including
observations, collection of student work, video assessment, pre and
post assessment of a task (formative and summative assessment)
Lesson Content:
Content of the lessons were high quality
Lessons were adherent to the curriculum
Lessons included a wide range of resources
Lessons were engaging

Lessons were hands on


Clear expectations were made, thus providing structure for the
lessons
Planning:
Teacher used a weekly program as a structure for the lessons (see
folder)
The teacher is provided weekly planning time on Monday and
Thursday when the students are at music and sport
Staff meetings are held on a Wednesday afternoon
Family Engagement:
The teacher is happy to meet with parents
Teacher stands outside with students at the beginning and end of
each day to allow parents to communicate with her.
